A Thread for Items with the "Editorial License"
As it seems there is only a thread in the PC+ forums, I think a warning thread for items showing up with the new editorial license should be here too.
The license is listed between the SKU: and the matrix of promo pictures where it has the text:
"This product is sold under an editorial license.
Usage restrictions apply."
On a mobile phone, you can see it only in landscape mode:

As for the Daz Deals Browser Add-on:
A warning for those using the "Hide Optional License Addons" feature - it is hiding the new "Editorial license" too.

Thread about the license itself: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/578896/eula-update-editorial-licenses-coming-to-daz/p1
At the moment, there seem to be two of those:

yes thanks, I would have easily missed restriction on the 2 so far also if it hadn't been mentioned in the other Editorial thread
Yeah - this needs to be made WAY more obvious. I own the Cyber Racer and its addon textures (weren't they DAZ+ freebies?).
Not entirely sure this isn't an error.
Neither of the two show anything about that restriction on my PC screen..
My fault due to DAZ-Deals settings...
Thanks for this, maybe the thread could be made a sticky?
This is useful information. Thanks for posting.
If it is to function as an alert thread it would probably be best not to post to it other than to say a new Editorial License item is out.
you can fix that starting with this post
Not sure an alert thread that vanishes to page x after a day or two would work ... people wouldn't find it when wanting to add another item.
...they need a check box like the one for "mature content" to show/hide products that have a Restricted Licence requirement.
Agreed .. I will safely say I will NEVER buy a product with one of these licences .. so I don't want to see them and don't want to mistakenly buy one either.
It only took five months after the announcement of editorial licenses to see a couple items appear in the Daz store with those licenses. And it's not obvious (to this observer) why either of those items would have special licenses.
Daz_Travis announced editorial licensing in July. As far as I can see, Daz implemented none of what we customers asked for in that forum thread, with regard to making the Editorial License very visible and filterable. There is only a little note on the product page that isn't displayed at all on a mobile device in portrait orientation. I don't see any "filter by license" option of any kind in the shop, my product library, or DIM. Am I overlooking all this capability, or is it just not there?
I just submitted a help request to return the Retro Apartment (Standard License), because Daz+ released the next part of the series with Editorial License.
Added the warning about Daz-Deals to the first post ...
Dang, I bought both of them because I didn't pay attention. Even worse, they are both DAZ Plus items that I felt were 'safe' used to trigger a discount.
Thanks for this thread. I'm going to return the two items, even though they were triggering a discount during the sale.
What really annoys me is that they are sold at the same price as the regular DAZ Plus items (or regular store price for non-DAZ-Pluslers). In any case, I'm warned now and it will further limit my purchases here.
Yes, and the fact that we pay a Daz+ subscription price and get limited use (editorial license) products is not good.
considering the monthly coupons were made into "limited use" due to many sales now coming with their own coupon codes DAZ+ loses a lot of it's interest for me.
Yep, once this drifts off page one, it'll be out of sight, out of mind for the most part. There needs to be a pinned running tab thread with new releases of this license so people don't accidentally buy them.
Sounds like DAZ is going the same route as Shutterstock and Getty Images have already for stock photos. I sell stock photos on both as well as Adobe. When I upload an image I must distiguish between whether I am uploading a photo to sell as an EDITORIAL or CREATIVE photo. Since I mostly upload photos of cars and identiffiable landscapes, most of my photos are sold as EDITORIAL.
Adobe has only recently started to accept EDITORIAL.
Thanks for the heads up. I trust Daz more each day.
I agree one googolplex percent with this idea AND a GIANT RED notice to each cart item that has the EL restrction.
Beside Retro Props 2 and Cyber Racer, are there any other products with this restriction as of 2022-12-18?
I had DAZ Deals set to block the licenses as I didn't think I would need them as I don't do commercial or 3D renders and I bought the Retro Apartment Props 2 on 30 Nov 2022 when it was released. I am just now seeing this thread today, 7 Jan 2023. I am grateful for @Kerya for starting this thread and I have now reset my DAZ Deals settings.
As far as the product's small appliances, I grew-up in the USA of the 50s and 60s and don't remember any like that, so am I right in assuming these were European products? I seem to remember seeing something like them in Germany and England when I was stationed there in the 70s and 80s (toaster, coffee pot and tea kettle), but not with the same decorations.
When I first saw this pack that was my first impression. I have seen the spice rack style in the USA though. But so many of the items are generic, like the timer and are very nice.
They seem to be based on currently sold appliances by SMEG https://www.smeg.com/us/small-appliances
I was just wondering how it affects renders. Could someone enlighten me on if I own the render or if they do?
You own your renders, but you can't use the editorial license assets to create renders used for commercial purposes (commissions, advertisements, etc.).
Okay, so SMEG took older appliances and just 'gussied' them up and is selling them now. But the original styles are older, going back decades. Same as companies make 'retro' TVs, radios, record players, ... that look like Westinghouse, GE or early Sony models. The blender is now 101 years old. Coffee makers go back go back further into antiquity and complexity. I expect each of these small appliances has a complex history, so I accept DAZ's legal department the right to protect themselves for a color and design element, even if the actual products are not SMEG's actual patents. I appreciate being pointed to the designer of the actual items.
Let's add an item: https://www.daz3d.com/cb-anhe-hd-for-genesis-9
Unfortunately, this item has the Editorial restriction.
missed that - will be returning it then. Thanks for the heads-up.
But why?
It doesn't make sense, as I can't image that she is trademarked or similar. Unless there are testing waters.
Thank you for the heads up. Didn't see that. It is immediately coming out of my cart right now.
