G8 hair not fitting to G8.1 character

Hi there,

Wondering if someone can help. I bought this hair by @kool https://www.daz3d.com/allen-hair-for-genesis-8 to work on a G8.1 female figure, as the product page indicates that it will work with 8.1, but when I load it onto the figure, it brings up the auto-fit system, as it appears to not, in fact, be compatible. Once fitted, none of the morphs work.

Is there a way to get the morphs working, or should I request a refund as it doesn't work as advertised?

RiverSoft Art might have a product for that. I checked and couldn't see it, his products names are so long with tons of useless words that browsing the page of his products, having to hover over each thumbnail to know what it's about, is a real pain. Have a look, but I'm not sure there's anything in his products page that could help.

Those morphs in Allen hair, that attempt to auto-adapt to movements of the head, are quiet nice ! It doesn't work perfectly but it's a very commendable effort from the content creator. Never seen that sort of auto corrective morphs on hair before.

So... indeed Allen Hair doesn't work as advertised on G8.1

Best thing you could do is load the hair without selecting Genesis first. Then parent the hair manually to the head. This way hair will follow the head normally, and you'll still have access to the morphs. They won't dial themselves as they do with G8 when moving the head around, but you will still be able to dial them manually to adapt them to a pose.

If you're unhappy with that workaround, sure, eventually ask for a refund, or open a ticket to see if Daz can motivate Kool to rework his bundle.

Thank you for the answer. Looking at those products, I can't see anything that would do it.

Disappointing that it doesn't work. I think it's rather disingenuous to be advertising that something for $24 on the Daz store works with 8.1 when it clearly does not.

I will be requesting a refund.

There is something wrong in the product. It has 2 hairs, but both are set up as Genesis 8 male hair, even though one is intended as female.

You can autofit the hair if you set it as G8M as preferred base.

Yes, but I lose the ability to use the hairs morphs, which renders it useless for my purposes.

Autofit will loose custom bones, but morphs should still be there.

The morphs for moving any parts of the hair are there, but do not function. Honestly, I'll just request a refund, as it doesn't work as advertised with 8.1 and I find 8 kind of infuriating to use when it comes to expressions.

Has this ever been fixed? It's such a shame since it seems like good hair otherwise.

You could try changing the Scene Identification of the hair:

    • Load your G8.1F
    • Click on the background so she isn't selected
    • Load the G8F Allen Hair
    • With the hair selected, choose Edit > Object > Scene Identification... from the menu bar
    • The "Preferred Base" near the bottom of the pop-up shows which figure the hair is intended for. It should be showing Genesis 8/Female, but comments above suggest it might (wrongly) be Genesis 8/Male.
    • Either way, use the [...] button and the treeview it brings up to change the base to Genesis 8.1/Female
    • You should then be able to fit the hair to the G8.1F without it trying to autofit.

You can use the same trick to fit G3 hairs to G8/8.1 and vice versa, but sadly it doesn't work between any other generations.

Cancel AutoFit and parent to the ehad of the figure instead, as long as it is in the zero pose that should work as it did on 8.

You also can simply fix it yourself once and for all:

    - Go to your Daz Library > data\Kool\Allen Hair For Genesis 8 Female\Allen Hair For Genesis 8 Female\, there's a file Allen Hair2_297218.dsf Open it with Notepad++. Ctrl + F, search prefer.

    - Change Male to Female (ss1 - 2)  Ctrl + S to Save the DSF file. Reload the Hair to G8.1F.

Have you confirmed this fixes the issue on the actual product yourself? I don't have the product myself so can't check.

Yes of course, it's a sort of routine fix ~

Great, I might buy it then. I had known about the workarounds the other guys proposed but didn't consider them actual fixes.

Thanks for the responses everyone :)
