Been a while

Just getting back to this now that I'm retired. I purchased Carrara 7 years ago but lost it. I logged in here to hopefully restore it but found I have a serial number for Carrara 8 upgrade. How do I go about downloading it?

  • It should be in your product library pages, and I think available through the Daz installer applications if you let them log in.

  • Thank you, I found it. Brings back memories.

    Welcome back.

  • Well, be kind of short lived. I can't get Carrara 8.1 or Hexagon to run on my MacBook pro with osx 10.11. Carrara puts me into an endless loop of run as administrator, enter the serial number, trial expired..... Hex, no clue. The error box comes up behind the splash screen and freezes the computer. Sad, really.

I'm a Windoze user, hopefully some of the Mac users will appear soon to help out !!!

I can't help you with the expired serial number. You'll probably have to purchase a new one.

On the other hand a slightly newer version of Hexagon is free and available in the Daz store ( https://www.daz3d.com/hexagon-2-5-download-version ).  It works fine on my Mac ( macOS 10.13 )

There is also a separate Hexagon discussion forum ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/hexagon-discussion )

  • Thanks for the replies. All downloads were recent. Serial numbers are valid, I got them loaded on a PC just fine. I think I'm not holding my mouth right or something with the MAC. I'm not complaining one bit. After over a decade, my account was valid and the 7 to 8 upgrade was valid. I thought that was pretty cool. Makes me consider upgrading to 8.5 Pro next go. Hex was one of the first modeling programs I actually could understand. Carrara a close second. My next confuser upgrade will be a new MacBook Pro since the programs I build for now have a MAC version. Just want to be sure at least Carrara will be stable on it before moving to 8.5 Pro. Thanks for the replies.

Beware a new MacBook Pro comes with the latest macOS, currently Version 14 "Ventura".

Hexagon will not run on macOS 10.15+ ( "Catalina" and above )  More info in the Hexagon forum. ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/599861/hexagon-alternative-on-mac-as-it-is-no-longer-supported-compatible-with-mac#latest )

Carrara 8.5 Pro does run on macOS 10.15+ as has been reported on several threads in this forum. However there are compatibility issues e.g. with the OpenFileDialog. ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/589456/mac-catalina-and-later-image-import-script#latest )

Also AFAIK it does not run on a mac with a M1 or M2 processor. ( https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/603596/installing-on-macbook )

The advice is to stay on macOS 10.14 "Mojave" or use it as a guest OS in a VirtualMachine (e.g. Parallels)

  • They just keep making it harder for us MAC kids, don't they? I guess this is an exercise in futility, laughing. I guess it's off to Silo or Cheetah3D for me. I'll keep my PC setup of Hex, Carrara and Studio for now to dabble with. If it's not in the cards, it's not in the cards. Thank you for your help.
