Hi guys, I'm "An" or you guys can call me online name "Gun". Right now, i'm study to become game designer, but the world of game designer to wide, and i don't know where I have to beigin. Until I know Daz 3d, I think this would be the good start for newbie like me. Anyway, just ignore my goal and start to enjoy my work today :D

This time, I created a normal life at bus stop. First, I 'll post my 3Ddelight render first, and second will be NVIDIA iray render. In my conclusion, I think for 3Ddelight I can make the render more brighter, and I can control the light like i want. On the other hand, NVIDIA iray, when I render I don't see the light i want, even if I use different light with different angle, It still give me the render same each other, and if I dont use the lights, I still got my render with light after rendering, but to compare 3Ddelight with NVIDIA iray, I think the light in NVIDIA render more realistic than 3Ddelight. It just my thinking, if any one have a better knowledge, please tell me know, so I can improve my work in DAz 3d

First, 3Ddelight

  • This work is pretty professional. Keep up the good work.

I've been doing 3D for a few years now. It takes a while to get good at it, so its best to pick a specific field of interest (modeling, rigging, texturing, etc.) and master it. Then move onto other stuff. If you try to do everything, it will take years (see me).

    Hello Gun,

I thought I'd stop in and see what we could do with your picture. You were asking about iray so here;s what I did.

I always look through a camera. It makes a few things a lot easier than using the "Perspective" view. You should also turn the "Headlamp" off as we won't need it.

Here's the Bus stop and a surfer guy. Both are defaults, nothing was changed.

On the "Render Settings" tab I changed the "SS Time" to 10:00:00 AM

This will make the sun come in from the guys left side and have a long shadow.

    That's it for this one :) .

You can change the arc of the sun by changing the time of day on the "SS day" and "SS Time". If you use a date and time in the summer, like July 10 2015 at 12:00:00 PM (noon) the sun will be nearly straight over head.March 10 2015 at 12:00:00 (noon) will give you the longer shadows as the sun is lower in the sky. You can also use "Dome Rotation" to change the direction of the shadows.

When you use a distant light in iray its almost always much brighter than it needs to be at default level. So I turn those down a bit. Click the distant light in the "Scene" tab and then click the "Parameters"tab.Select "light" and set the "Intensity" to 20% and the "Lumens" to 50.

The lighting is the part of the picture that's the hardest to get right.Practice is the only way to get better at it.You doing well so far, keep up the good work :)

thanks icecrmn, I don't know that we can choose  time and day, even years in DAz3d. Thanks for the comment, this will help me improve my skill :D

oh one more thing. when I use spot light and linear light in NVIDIA iray, why i don't see much change after i render, the light almost same with each other?
