Iray and motion blur?

Love the iray renders I'm getting, but my animation still has a stutter-quality akin to old school stop-motion. Endearing, but not entirely acceptible. Is there any way to add motion blur to an iray render? I'v experimented with doing a second render in 3Delight and blending the layers in After Effects, but it's not entirely working.

  • If it's stuttering check your frame rate.

Iray and blur has been discussed in other threads on this, such as:

Blur is built into Iray, so I imagine they'll add it to D|S eventually.

  • Use post-processing... until then...

There are better ways, but these, are free, as far as I am aware.

Also, your video-codex may not be good. If RAW, that is demanding and has NO graphic acceleration. Use the standard H.246 (MPG/MP4/AVI/QT). Not sure if you can "set" the frame-rate, other than setting time. (Trick, double time and play it twice as fast to get 60FPS instead of 15 or 30 or whatever it is exporting video frames-frame-rate as.)

When saving the final video, do NOT "save in original frame-rate", save it as 24/30 or 60 FPS with "Variable bitrate", set to "quality". Only use RAW output IF you intend to do post-processing, which will play like stop-motion, because you are playing whole images as "video frames", which is demanding on any video system to display. You need some kind of final compression in the end.
