Genesis 8 Female HD Expressions

I have just purchased and installed this package:
https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-female-expressions

and... i cannot find any of them. Nothing under the tab "posing" -> head -> expressions, nothing under "parameters" tab. Also not in content library, neither Daz Connect nor My Library.

The installed package files are located in
C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Expressions
which is probably correct.

I reinstalled G8F essentials and then the product itself, but nothing changed.

So what am i doing wrong?

Are you usign Genesis 8 Female or Genesis 8.1 Female?

  • Genesis 8 Female. I know the product does't support 8.1

Well, the main question is - where whould they appear? By posing or somewhere else?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 101,051

They should add new Pose Controls to the figure and/or the head.

  • Pose Controls is the first place I checked in, but nothing new there - see the attached screenshots.

Any ideas how to solve this issue? I assume putting the files into the right location should solve it. As said before this is where the files are now:
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Expressions

Can somebody (who has this package working) check where their files are located? Maybe moving them will solve it.
    Or any other suggestions?

Sounds strange...  Is this path 'C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library' the only library you have ? Your Genesis 8 Starter Essentials locate in this directory as well?

You may 1st double-check the path configuration in F2 - Content Directory Manager. Clear DSON cache files then load the figure again to see if it works...

  • Thanks for your reaction, Crosswind! And yes, this is really strange.

    Clearing cache didn't help unfortunately.

Genesis 8 Starter Essentials are in the same directory as far as i can say
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\People\Genesis 8 Female

    I do have another library:
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\Library
where i put free products from renderosity and other resources. But the products that come from Daz3d shop are installed by the install manager in the main library here:
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library

I have also tried this: copied the content of Morphs directory into
C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\Library where i at least can reach them. But they don't work when applied to G8F or Head.

Another strange thing is - I downloaded free CE-Expr G8f expressions. The product claimed it would NOT be working without the package:
    https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-8-female-expressions
and this is true. CE expressions did not work, but they do now after the installation of the package in question. Which means Daz application recognise the package somehow, but i still cannot use the expressions. The most desirable way would by dials under "Pose controls", but i would be happy even with "one-click" version.

This makes it even more confusing, so any help would be appreciated.

Okay~ then try to check this: F2 - Open the Location folder under DSON Cache Files (...dson\cache\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8). There should be a file named 'Female.cache.dsf'. Use a TXT editor software (e.g. EmEditor or Notepad++) to open it.

Search a morph file, for instance, eCTRLBereft_HD.dsf, see if you can find it ...

Well, maybe we are getting somewhere.

eCTRLBereft_HD.dsf is not found in the cache file. The cache file is updated 5 minutes ago (after clearing the cache again), so it is up-to-date. Also restarted the application itself by the way.

For example eCTRLFrown_HD.dsf (which is available as dial under Pose controls->Head->Expressions) is found in the cache file. Both files are present in this directory:
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Expressions

So Frown is available in cache and visible in dial and Bereft not. I see no difference between the original files, even modified time is the same. Kinda discriminative to Bereft ;)

If I understand you correctly - if Bereft (and other new expressions) were in the cache file, they would also be accessible in Pose controls->Head->Expressions?
Well, is there a way to force the cache file to load all the expression files?

Yes, if the morph files are correctly read and loaded, they should be in the cache file~ So I could only imagine by now that the files of this expression product you installed are corrupted...

    Pls further check: Daz Studio - Windows - Panes - Batch Converter - Add Files..., choose 'C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Expressions\eCTRLBereft_HD.dsf ', then apply..
Still use TXT editor to open this file, see if it could be opened correctly and the codes are good ~

PS: Also check the log file in Daz Studio to see if there's any warning message related to these expression morphs...

  • Thanks for not giving up on me ;)

After using the Batch converter on eCTRLBereft_HD.dsf the size of the file grew from 4Kb up to 53Kb. First it was just unreadable characters. Now it looks like a valid text/json file. Or DSON whatever this means.

After clearing the cache, etc. it still has not appeared under pose controls. And these are warnings about it in the log (more complete version below)
:: Parent for modifier not found: eCTRLBereft_HD
    :: Modifier not prepared: eCTRLBereft_HD!
    :: Modifier not created: eCTRLBereft_HD!

This line is found in the readable version of eCTRLBereft_HD.dsf
    "parent" : "/data/DAZ%203D/Genesis%208/Female/Genesis8Female.dsf#Genesis8Female"

    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Genesis8Female.dsf
does exist and is sound and living as a valid and readable DSON file.

Both files are located in the same base directory:
    C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\
so it is probably not about an invalid path.

    What do you think?

Have you ever logged in to DS?

What I'm getting at is, if you have logged in to DS and allowed DAZ Connect inside DS to install and/or update any of your assets, you may be looking at the wrong files.
DAZ Connect installs the assets in to different location, often has decryption problems with the files and whenever there is a Connect installed file, it overrides files installed by all other means, even when the Connect installed file is not working.

  • Yes, i have logged in before, but not recently.
I am not sure i understand 100% what you mean, but the point is clear. Do you have any idea how to find the actual file location? Or how to solve this issue otherwise?

As the paths are relative, I can't tell you where the Connect installed assets are stored before you show us the paths in your Content Directory Manager (all paths expanded like in the sample)

The line highlighted in red is weird and wrong~ the dsf file should not locate in user-face folder... Can you search and check this folder and delete all these dsf files and retry...

  • Deleted the folder, but nothing changed (after clearing cache and restarting Daz)

Answering the other question, here are the Content Directory:

    CMS Cluster Directory
    C:/Users/.../AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms

    Daz Connect Data
    C:/Users/.../Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Daz Connect Library

    DAZ Studio Formats
    C:/Users/.../Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library
    C:/Daz 3D/Applications/Data/DAZ 3D/Library

I also found the expressions here:
    C:\Users\...\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Daz Connect Library\data\cloud\1_42071\data\daz 3d\genesis 8\female\morphs\daz 3d\expressions

    Any ideas?
Maybe deinstalling the package, log in via Daz Connect, and then install them again via Install Manager?

Whatever you do, don't log in to DS EVER, if you are using Daz Install Manager (DIM), DAZ Central, or manual installation to install your content.

Without logging in to DS, go to Smart Content, locate the product and uninstall from there.

Final try ...: F2 - Content Directory Manager - DAZ Connect Data, set the path as same as the lib path: 'C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\'.... then clear the cache and reload the figure...

    IT WORKED!

    Now details:
    - After changing the path for Daz Connect Data to C:\Daz 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\ and removing the old path it did not work yet. I cleared the cache after each step, of course.
    - After uninstalling G8F Essentials via the Installer and installing it back again via the Installer it did not work yet.
    - Then i removed G8F via Smart Content as PerttiA suggested, and installed it back again via the same Smart Content. I had to log in to Connect, otherwise it was not possible. Cleared the cache again and it worked!

Additionally it fixed missing avatars in the Smart Content, which were probably also caused by the library conflict.

Now it works for new figures and of course for existing models. One of them sends you guys a kiss to thank you for your effort!
