3Delight Rendering Issues - Discussed but not figured out yet

HI guys,

a brief introduction: I used to do a lot of 3d art with Daz, then stopped for a couple of years. The last few months or so I've been trying to get back into it but i've been having many problems (including some I solved with your help).

However, I'm having more issues. Almost ready to quit again, and this time for good. This software has so many issues.

Latest problem: I was recreating some characters I used in the past, no problem, but now they have many issues.

Here's a render I made a few years ago of one of my characters (based on Mika 7) followed by a render done recently (notice the skin is darker een though the settings are suppose to be the same - in both cases I didn't use any lights, just the camera light).

Also, notice there is no hair beause now daz refuses to reder the image if I add it (even though I had no problem rendering her with the same hair in the past, as you can see in my old render)

So, apparently my genesis 3 characters are having issues (no problems with genesis 2).

I don't understand what is going on. How come things that worked before don't work anymore? Have I done something different without noticing? Any thoughts?

EDIT: It's not just Genesis 3 issue. I"m having the same problem with any models. It must be an issue with some settings, maybe a new default in recent versions of Daz, but I don't know how to fix this

Off the top of my head, current versions of Daz Studio require current versions of graphics drivers to work properly.

The drivers should be fine because, for instance, all the genesis 2 models I have work fine. Also other Genesis 3 or 8 models work okay.....

Actually, after a few more tests it looks like Im having issues with many genesis 3 models (when rendering)

    that's weird....

Okay, so I did a little more testing. All the genesis 3 models do not render the way they use to, and some of the Out of Touch hair do not work at all (other kinds of hair render differently from before)

I'm starting to think it could be an issue with the latest Daz versions (running 4.20 atm, but I was using an earlier version before taking a break). I know some people mentioned those hair didn't work properly for them after 4.30 came out.

Have those issues been resovled with 4.21? ANd if so, is it ossible to download it without losing some custom categories I'd created to keep track of products?

    Any other thoughts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..... Starting to really hate DAZ now.... more often than not it's just a waste of time.

First, you can save your custom categories (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/595001/how-to-restore-or-backup-categories)...   Second, I did a little reseach and here is the issue (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/622871/problems-with-oot-hair-you-can-get-any-color-you-like-as-long-as-it-s-black) with a possible solution:  install the beta if you haven't and see if you have the problem.  Your original installation will remain unchanged and hopefully your hair will will work.  I haven't this problem though I generally render through the beta version of daz studio because I like the latest and greatest.

Okay, I really appreciate the help. Regading 'installing the beta' to be honest I'm not sure what that means. The Beta of a new Daz Studio? Is that the beta of a latest version? Where o I get it?

Also,  the hair in itself is not a problem. I could jsut use other hair. The biggest problem is that most of my genesis 3 models do not render properly anymore. arker skin. THat aborts my project because I was going to use mostly genesis 3 characters.

Here's another example of what I mean

    Old render

    image

    Yesteday's render

    image

Same character, both renders done in 3DL with similar lighting, same model (in both cases I used 3DL shaders) The hair are also the same and yet look different in the second render.

The only difference is that I used a different version of Daz.

Anybody has any idea why this is happening?

And another example, this time Genesis 8 models (yay, I found out I have the same issue with genesis 8 stuff, only the genesis 2 render as before the switch)

Could really use some help ;)

EDIT: Actually, I was wrong, a few more tests show that Genesis 2 models are also rendering darker than before (although it's slightly less noticeable)

    What is going on?

3Delight has not chnaged as far as I am aware, so aside from possible headlamp issues I am not sure what might be causing the changes in general. Some OoT hairs have been updated to deal with an Iray change, but that should not affect any 3Delight materials they may have.

As far as I know I am not doing anything differently.... the only thing that comes to mind could be that maybe the new version of Daz has different settings, in some areas, but that seems odd.

I'm sure we will all agree the renders look quite different so, yeah, I can't figure out why.

(The OOT hair are suppose to be mainly for Iray and don't have 3DL shaders, however, it used to work in 3DL for me and now it doesn't - all of my renders involving models look different, only objects and environments are still rendering the way they used to)
