Will Ryzen 5 3600 Will Bottleneck If I use RTX 4000 Cards

Hello,

I am using a Build with Ryzen 5 3600 Process with 32 GB DDR 4 RAM. At present I got GTX 1660 Card, Which I am planing to upgrade.

I am planning to buy RTX 4070. Will It cause issue with my current CPU, Which is Ryzen 3600?

Or should I go for RTX 3060 Card. I am not considering 3070 as the Price GAP between 3060 and 3070 is not too much.

Also, Which one will be good for DAZ Studio Work, 3060 Ti With 8 GB VRAM or 3060 with 12 GB VRAM.

The RTX 3060 Ti has more Cuda but Less VRAM and RTX 3060 has less Cuda but 4 GB More RAM.

I tried to do reserch on YouTube, But there is no dedicated video for results in Daz and 3D related apps. Its all filled with Games benchmarks

Please advice.

    1. If you'd like go for 4070, you CPU should be fine but your motherboard better have PCIE4

    2. As for 'which one will be good for Ds' (3060 / 3060 Ti), it depends.
     a. If you often make complicated scenes with quite a few characters, etc. you have to assure there's enough VRAM first of all, otherwise rendering will be rolled back to CPU. So 3060 will be better.
     b. If you just make some simpler scenes and really care about rendering speed, then 3060 Ti will be a better choice.

    3. If you have no plan to upgrade motherboard / CPU etc., since you have more or less the budget for 4070, you may also consider 3080 as it has more 4000 CUDA cores but only less 2GB VRAM.

    imo as above...

    Thanks for information Crosswind,

    I got this MB - GIGABYTE B550 Gaming X (AM4 AMD/B550/ATX/Dual M.2/SATA 6Gb/s/USB 3.2 Gen 2/PCIe 4.0/HDMI/DVI/USB 3.1 Gen 2/DDR4.

    I hope this will do?

    Yeah, that'll do ~

  • Thanks for clearing out everything Crosswind. One more Question, Can I do Animation on Daz Studio with RTX 3060.

Animation of 2-3 Genesis 8-9 Models With Environment ?

Technically yes you can, however, rendering an animation will take 'some 'time and require more skills and patience. Rendering time depends on the the resolution and length of animation. You better learn more before getting on it...

    You may check @Dartanbeck 's work: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/616611/loving-daz-studio/p1, and @WendyLuvsCatz ‘s : https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/626806/i-am-stuck-with-clearing-scene#latest. They're good animators.

I'm really not sure where this recent fixation amongst some contributors with PCIE4 has come from. The gaming community forums perhaps? We use Studio professionally and our 'proof of concept' machine is an old Intel 4770, 24GB of RAM of mixed and indeterminate origin, and a 3060 12GB card on an ageing PCIE3 board. That old beast does not get overwhelmed. PCIE4 only really comes into play if you use one or two AMD graphics cards which will not be of any use to people here. Other than that it's essentially an irrelevance.

That said, our animation rendering machine uses Nvidia workstation 48GB cards and an AMD 5900; animation is a different kettle of fish altogether. You can do animation on any GPU or, in fact, on the CPU if you so wished but the pertinent questions are what are you rendering and how long are your clips? If you are using complex, low-light environments with complex characters using memory hungry hair and outfits you could be in for a very long wait with a 3060 or it may not handle it at all and drop back to the CPU.

If you are using simple, well lit or HDRI environments with optimised characters and outfits a 3060 will be fine for short clips. At 30fps an animation sequence is a lot of renders!

Here's the basic idea: Buy the GPU with the most VRAM you can afford. The rest of the machine is largely an irrelevance as long as you have roughly 3 to 4 times the system RAM as VRAM, i.e. a 3060 12Gb card would ideally have a minimum of 36Gb of system RAM. Closest to that is 32GB and ours runs fine with 24GB.

Whatever you pick, animation on a frame by frame basis in Studio is slow. There's no getting around it. If you're prepared to put in some work and are willing to accept a lower level of fidelity, scenes can be exported to Blender, Unity or Unreal, all of which have (in my opinion) superior animation capabilities. You could, of course, accept lower levels of accuracy using the denoiser built into Studio or an external one and only render a few iterations per frame rather than export to another application but if you want ray-traced, photo-real animations then... there's no shortcut I'm afraid, but don't be talked into buying PC gear you don't need.

  • Thanks a lot TimberWolf and Crosswind.

A lot of confussion is cleared. I think I can go for 3060 12 GB and Add 32 GB RAM. I am not planning to do complex animation. Most I think I can do are 3-4 Character Max. I hope 3060 can handle that much.

Hi, there's always a bottleneck. Depending on the workload it may be GPU speed, CPU speed or ram speed.

For Daz Studio I'd prioritize quantity of Vram. The 12gb 3060 sounds like a good upgrade.

I've just moved a 4090 from a PCIe 3.0 system to a PCIe 4.0 system. Bought the fastest 64gb DDR5 ram kit I could find versus a midding 64gb DDR4 kit. CPU benches at between 50% to 300% faster depending on workload to the old one. GPU usage has gone from high 80s - low 90s while rendering to high 90s. Actual improvement in render speed is about 6%. I'm honestly surprised it was that much.

So, just for DS you'll get most of the performance of your new GPU with your current system. You'll also get a small boost if you upgrade the rest of the setup in the future.

hello everyone, hope you are doing good,

I don't understand why i should upgrade 3.0 to 4.0 to get a 4070. I have a ryzen 5 3600 and b450 msi tomahawk max II, 32gm corsair vengeance ram 3200MHz and a 3060 msi ventus 2x. I want to play valorant and csgo at more than 240 fps 1080p and i want to pick a 4070 to be sure thati have no problem with fps. Do you think it's a reasonable purchase ?

thank you in advance for your answers

What do you get with your 3060? My 3060 on a B550 motherboard, PCIe 4 and a Ryzen 5800X gives around 370fps in CSGO and 500-700fps in Valorant.

There's no need, various websites have tested the difference in gaming and it's a couple of percent at most.

I get aroud 300fps on valorant but sometimes it drops at 180 or 144 then comes back 300 on low settings, do you think i should upgrade my gpu or cpu to get more fps ?

Looks like a CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade makes more sense as your 3060 still has lots of unused capacity. Any new GPU you get will also be held back by your current system.
