Use G8 wearable preset on G9?

I have a wearable preset that loads a sword prop into G8's hand. Is it possible to transfer this to G9? And if so, how?

The only way I know of to do this is:

    1. Load G8 and then fit the wearable. Unparent the wearable from the G8 figure hierarchy. Delete G8.

    2. Load G9. Manually position the wearable where it should be on the G9, parent it to a suitable joint (hand in the case of a sword)  and apply a pose as appropriate, e.g., hand grasp.

    3. Select G9

    4. File -> Save As -> Wearable Preset.

    5. Select the Pose tab and check 'Include Pose Settings in Preset'. If you've used any morphs to achieve your pose then the Shaping checkbox should be ticked as well.

If there's an easier or better way to do it than this I'd like to know too!

Yep, that's where I'm at too. I was hoping that a script like a pose convertor existed, but I resigned myself to doing it this way. cheeky

There is a converter from G8 to G9

I do have a convertor, and it's great for poses, but sadly useless for wearables. frown

The only other thing I can think of and it's more time consuming then a script, take the Genesis you're working on and the outfit and bring them into Blender or Hexagon or whatever program you use and just make the outfit fit the model and export the outfit only to obj and import to Daz and apply the Transfer Utility and, if you're game, dforce options.

That doesn't seem related to the problem of positioning wearable props at all.

I know this is an old thread, but should this procedure also work going from G3 to G8?

I have a product from another store that has a G3 wearable set that loads multiple character accessories at once.

(Furthermore, it also includes hierarchical poses for the wearable accesory set. Those are beyond my ability to attempt to convert to G8, but maybe I can manually re-create the poses IF i can get the wearable set converted to G8?)

G3 to G8 conversion of anything is generally easier than G8 to G9 in my experience. G3 and G8 are not hugely different with only minor variations in the skeleton, mostly affecting the feet and therefore shoes/heels/boots conversion. Even the UV maps were the same until G8.1 was released. G3 and G8 share the same figure height but there are obvious differences in the default base pose for the arms and legs which will require you to move the wearables to an appropriate position manually. G8 and G9 are not even remotely related but the same process still works.

Hierarchical poses are not usable outside the generation for which they were created as far as I know. Converting your G3 wearables to G8 is a nominally trivial task, albeit time consuming if you have to do lots of them, but if you want to recreate the poses then it's also going to be a manual process. Load your G3 and pose it, load your G8 and manually position the limbs to match.

This operation could certainly be scripted (and in fact there is a G8 to G9 script written by @richardandtracy of these forums that does exactly this process of limb rotation conversion using a G8 present in the scene) but I'm not aware of any that will do G3 to G8 off-the-shelf; the store-sold pose conversion products don't use that copy/compensate process so won't work for your purposes.

In short, yes, the laborious process of moving stuff about, parenting it, experimenting and then saving as described will work. Wearables and hierarchical pose conversion is currently a 100% manual operation as far as I know. If anyone knows differently, as my original reply said, I'd like to know!

I have a product from another store that has a G3 wearable set that loads multiple character accessories at once.

As long as the accessories are parented and not fitted, it's the same process and it's even easier between G3 and G8 (because the two figures are really close) and as long as you're transfering props / accessories while keeping the same gender between the source figure and the target figure, you shouldn't have to move them following the process explained bellow: the goal is to get a target figure as close as possible to the source figure in shape and pose.

(Transfer between genders can be helped by Cross-Figures ressources kits if you have them)

The source and the target figures need to be the base figures: when transfering something between G3F or G3M to G8F or G8M, using Victoria 7 or Michael 7 with Victoria 8 or Michael 8 is a bad idea.

The process from Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 of the same gender:

    1. Load the source figure.
    2. Load the props / accessories on it.
    3. Load the target figure.
    4. Apply a Genesis 3 for Genesis 8 pose to go from the Genesis 8 default A pose to a T-Pose (I'm using one provided by @Sickleyield in the description of this video).
    5. Parent each prop / accessory to the correct bone on the target figure (ex: hand for a sword, one of the neck bone for a necklace, etc).
    6. (Optionnal step 1 ) If a prop required a specific pose (ex: hand pose for a sword), it's time to convert it using either a converter (paid or free) or look for a similar pose in your library (the converted one should be close enough between Genesis 3 and 8).
    7. Save a wearable preset either prop by prop or with all of them.
      1. (Optionnal step 2) If one prop required a pose, you can now save it with the wearable preset.

About Optional step 2, you may already know that but it's a good idea to save only the poses of the bones needed (ex: the hand bone and its children for a sword). To get here I usually unselect everything and navigate to the bones I need (I'm only looking for the parent bone, so if I'm 'converting' a sword, I'll select the right / left hand and let Daz select every children). On that part, I'm not totally sure what the best practices are so if there is a better way, I'm all ears smiley

How it looks with a G3F Sword parented to a G8.1F figure, with the sword parented to the right hand:

As a bonus, it's possible to use a similar process "converting" a wearable prop to Genesis 9 with a couple of additional steps, all taking place between step 3 and step 4. Step 3 now looks like that:

    • Load a Genesis 9 base figure (without Base Feminine or Base Masculine dialed in).
      1. Select Show Hidden Properties in the hamburger icon over the Parameters panel.
      2. With G9 Selected, go to the Parameters panel, then Genesis 9 > Hidden > Clones > Dial Genesis 3 Female at 100 % (Genesis 9 should now look very close to a base G3F)
      3. With the Joint Editor tool active, right-clicking anywhere in the viewport to get a menu then Edit > Adjust Rigging to Shape (no parenting before that part) then Accept.

And during step 4, the goal is to get the Genesis 9 pose close to the source figure default pose but I don't know if someone shared such poses.

    Screenshots for G9 additional steps:

    Hidden properties:

    Hidden clones:

    Adjusting rigging to shape:

    Rigging adjusted:

A free product on Renderhub can also be used:

    • the clone provided by Daz is closer to the original figure and Daz provides clones for every Genesis generation.
    • the free product does have the advantage of avoiding the Adjust Rigging to Shape step.

The other steps are identicals but it may be a good idea to use poses from similar Genesis 9 props, to get a better result. As an example, 'converting' the Chevaleresse Sword to Genesis 9, instead of converting the G3F hand pose, I used the pose from the Iron Lady Outfit and the resulting hand pose looks better.
