Currently experimenting with UE4 and finally got the pipeline working for making usable characters based on Genesis 2 figures.
From concepts (rendered in Studio with Iray):

Looks great! I would guess you have access to better animation tools in UE4 than what D|S provides.
UE4 gives you ability to blend and combine animations but you have to make the basic building blocks first. Even for simple animation controller with walk, run, sprint, turn left and right you'll have to have about 30 animations and here Studio may help. Actually animations from Studio go into UE4 smoothly via FBX but meshes are usually not - they need at least Autodesk FBX convertor or better MotionBuilder to be passed to engine without glitches.
Now in target engine named Tesseract.
It was relatively easy to import her into UE4 but for Tesseract I had to write custom FBX converter. Finally, she's there
Engine stress test passed :) In typical scenario it will never be 10 full-scale player characters visible at once.
