Hi community,

maybe a beginner question, but I tried it several time, but without success. Following issue: I bought the following product and installed it via DM. Now I see in Smart Content 5 folders, each with an item Wardrobe and Material.

I would like to merge all these assets into a single folder. How do I do that? When I copy and paste the assets in the Content Library under Product, nothing happens. Thanks for your help.

Not sure what you are seeing.

Clothing will be organized according to the type of clothing.

    From the product readme:

    • You can find new icons for loading this product in the following DAZ Studio Folders:

      • “People:Genesis 8 Female:Clothing:Daz Originals:X-Fashion Stylish Set”

      • “People:Genesis 8 Female:Clothing:Daz Originals:X-Fashion Stylish Set:Materials:Jacket Mats”

    • You can find new icons for this product in the following DAZ Studio Categories:

      • “Materials:Iray:Wardrobe”

      • “Wardrobe:Outerwear:Tops”

If you see something else try to post an image.

If you go to Content Library > Product > 'product name' you can find all the icons in that folder.

Or you can in Smart Content click 'Products' and find your product, and then you can see all the places where there are icons.

I have this product and I believe I can see what Ch79Fly means. This is one of those outfits where Daz experimented with offering each part as a separate product. See: X-Fashion Stylish Outfit for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females Bundle. Therefore, this effectively shows up as 5 products within Daz Studio which is pretty messy.

I would be inclined to just leave them as they are since any future product updates would mess with the manual changes. Also, I would point out that moving/copying the files will not have any effect on Smart Content - changes there need to be done by amending the metadata and specifically adding/removing them from Products.

Oh - it is one of those...

I overlooked that it was as part of a bundle.

They are a mess, and I tried to generally avoid them. Glad that Daz stopped with those again.

    Hi,

I see 5 folders in Smart Content/all products & and want to combine them in just one. Mainly all other wardrobe products are in one folder and have there all the material and assets.

I did this already a few years ago, but I can´t remember how this was going...

Postin an image doesn´t work for me at the moment.

    Thanks

Right, thanks for clarification SofaCitizen. As mentioned I was able to merge another product already a few years ago and it was quite easy, but can´t remember how it was going.

Well, if you are still keen on this then I imagine the steps would be something like this. Note, I don't want to do this in my own install so please proceed at your own risk (although you can probably re-install the products if it goes wrong):

    1. Locate the product that you want to move all the items into and copy the product name, e.g. "X-Fashion Stylish Outfit for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females Bundle"
    2. Navigate to the other products under Content Library - either by right-clicking an asset in Smart Content and selecting "Show Asset in" -> "Content Library -> Products" or by going to the Content Library tab manually and navigating to "Products" -> X
    3. Select one of the "partials" products, highlight all the assets inside, right click on one and select "Create Product From".
    4. In the box that pops up paste the Product Name from step 1
    5. I believe this should open up a confirmation dialog window about the product already existing and would you like to add the products to it. Click yes here.
    6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the other partial products
    7. Now go back to Smart Content and double-check that everything is part of the same one product. Note: you may have to right-click the background and hit refresh here to update the screen.
    8. In theory, you can now go back to Content Library, select the partial products and select Delete. I am pretty sure this just removes that product from Smart Content (CMS) it doesn't actually uninstall or remove the physical files.
    9. Hopefully now, you have eveything in one product as you wanted.

Again, this is a theoretical process and not one I have gone through myself as I am going to leave them as 5 products in my library. So please proceed with caution.

You may want to check this page (Adding Metadata to Products) from the Daz Wiki for more info.

Should plus one more step -: Go to the remaining 'Main Product', Edit Matadata - Export to dsx file. As all the above steps only write metadata to postgreSQL cms database without update product *.dsx file. In case you clean, lose cms or migrate to new PC someday, it can assure that the metadata of this product is intact when re-importing metadata. And better delete dsx files of those 'partial products' and never re-install these items from DIM, otherwise... messy again...

BTW, 'multi-packages' from a single Product really made me sick at that time.. I had to combine the packages and install them with Content Wizard... I'm also pleased Daz stopped doing so again...

With some frequency, I clean up a messy installation (DIM or manual) by using Delete in the Content Library.  Doing that does actually delete the applicable files/folders from your computer.  I was suprised the first time I experienced that.  I have my content installed on one external drive with a duplicate copy on another external drive.  When I delete from the Content Library, I browse to file location first so that I can verify which files are deleted so that I can manually delete them from the duplicate copy drive.

Once an item has been deleted from the COntent Library, orphaned references will still remain in Smart Content and in the product in the Products section of the Content Library. Those "ghost icons" can usually be deleted by using the Remove Orphaned Reference option in the Products section.  The removes the icon from the Product and from Smart Content.

I think SofaCitizen  meant "Delete Products" (those partial products) other than "Delete Folders".

Yes, thanks, I should have been more specific here - especially since there is plenty of cause of the wrong thing happening.

As above, I was referring to right-click and delete on the actual Product under the Products section (not the items). As there is no delete for items underneath the Product section of Content Library, only "remove reference", I didn't clarify as clearly as I should have done. Sorry for the confusion.

The idea at that point in the process is to ONLY remove the product references from the database (Smart Content) now that the items that those pther products used to contain have been linked to the bundle product. Removing references I was hoping was not necessary if the product was removed from the database as that should do that anyway I would have thought.

It's a bit messy but I don't know of another (easier) way to explain it without having manually editing XML files.

No worries all.  I learn a little bit every now and then about Daz Studio by trying stuff, too often making mistakes and then, hopefully, learning (and remembering) from my mistakes.
