Hexagon glitches

When I highlight a surface I need to extract, suddenly Hexagon simply will NOT extract anything. It flat out won't work. Also, when I try to move the object around, it won't move at all without me having to constantly click on the square at the bottom that has the four arrows in it.

    Are you using the CTRL + Arrow key to extrude (pressing the spacebar scrolls through the options) or the Vertex Modeling route ? 

    About the manipulator, the arrows move the object X,Y,Z, the white triangle in the corners are a quick rough and ready movement, the yellow cube in the centre is for scale.

    Items cannot be "grouped" for that and a few other tools to work.
