Is there an easy way to lock a body part in place during an animation?

Say I want a character's hand to be against a wall, but then I bend their chest backwards, is there a way to make the hand prevent itself from moving from it's position while still bending the arm/shoulder needed due to the new position of the body? I've used work arounds, but they never are perfect and still move slightly with a bounce look to them. I'd just like to keep body parts attached to a non-moving object and pose everything else to move.

That depends but you may use Pin in most of the similar cases, just try: Ctrl + Select both hands, press Space bar to Pin them, then bend the chest bones by rotating Gizmo.

  • Looks like you need IK. I can never get Daz's IK to work properly, things still move, but you have a couple of options. One is to export to Blender through Diffeo and animate it with the Simple IK rig, and then you can export the keys back into Daz as a pose preset and have IK for the hands. Or the second option if you want to stay within Daz, is to get Limbstick. You would be able to keep the hand on the wall and move. Just yesterday I animated a guy throwing a ball, I animated the ball movement and used limbstick to keep the hand connected to the ball until he released it and it worked really well. I've also used this method to open a window, limbstick'd the hands to the window and they followed it up. Other than that, it's probably not going to work how you want in Daz.
