A shader preset is a type of preset that you can apply to any surface to change the material settings.

That allows you to customize your 3D model.

  • Shader preset and Materials presets do the same thing, they tell Daz Studio what settings to use for the surfaces of a model to cotnrol how it reacts to light. The difference is that a Materials preset has settings targeted at oen or more anmed surfaces, and all you have to do is select the model then apply the preset: a Shader preset, by contrast, has one list of values that it applies to all seelcted surfaces on all seelcted objects.

A shader, which you will see more rarely, is the code that tells the renderer how the surface behaves - there are only a few of those, mostly you will see presets for changing the settings on one of the base shaders that comes with Daz Studio.

"targeted at oen or more anmed surfaces" = "targeted at one or more named surfaces"
