DAZ Install Manager flagged as ransomware

MalwareBytes flags DIM as ransomware and quarantines it. This happens while I try to install any new modules today. DIM has been fine before today. I'm running on Windows 11. If I tell MalwareBytes to restore the file, it does. But the next time I try and install in DIM MalwareBytes flags again.

I could tell MalwareBytes to trust DIM, but since this hasn't happened before today, it seems better to investigate more.

I'm running Install Manager 1.4.1.67.

False positives happen with some virus scanners. Even so, this is still an issue with the virus scanner; maybe you could report it to them or.. consider using something that doesn't mess up ;)

in the past Malwarebytes kept doing that to Carrara, irfanview and Octane render

I had to restore them and change the settings to allow them

I think it killed one of my external drives too quaranteening the driver but have not been able to fix it and can no longer use that hard drive

  • MWB also does it with Daz Connect when updating - it iss eeing the repalcement of oen file with another and taking it as an attempt to encrypt the user files as a prelude to a ransom demand. Security applications really need to be more clear about whether they have detected actual malicious action or just soemthing that might or might not be malicious - these overzealous actions servce only to undermine confidence in the tools (and it isn't just MWB) and make it more likely that a real heuiristic detection of a new piece of malware will be ignored.

  • I added the following two programs to my Malwarebytes Allow List. MWB treats these as safe, and now I can install my assets through DIM.

    • DAZ3DIM.exe
    • DAZ3DIMHelper.exe
