Missing Files Help

Rev3DRev3D Posts: 70

Hi, I'm getting this missing files error pop up but the file that it say is missing I have just in a different folder.

The missing file error says it can't find the files from /people/genesis 9/characters/marcosGAB/mGAB Sasha/MGAB Sasha.duf

But this file is loacted in a custom location in /people/genesis 9/characters/female

How do I stop this error message from appearing when it's clear that the file is there?

  • From where are you opening the file? If it is from a container populated from the CMS database then if the file has been moved and you haven't corrected the reference it won't be found - DS won't guess which file with the same name in a different location was intended.

I'm opening up previous files before I had this problem, before when I'd openeed up a file I wouldn't have this problem but now for some reason when I open up the same file I get this mission files error. I haven't moved anything deleted anything. All items are saved in my content library.

  • So scenes or presets of your own creation? But I was asking which bit of DS you were using to open them.

Scenes. I open up a scene and I get that error message. I open the scenes from My Library -> Scenes -> SceneFile

  • A character shouldn't be pointing to its .duf file - if the data is embedded in the file it should be embedded in the saved scene, and if - as should be the case - it is pointing to an asset in the Data folder then that link should be the one that is saved. Has the file always been where it is now, or had you moved it?

The missing file wasn't even put into that scene I didn't even own that item at the time. I haven't moved anything apart from downloading the Sasha product and manully loading/transffering it to my content library like I do with all my other items.

Another solution, contact with vendor, and ask for fix

It's possible that one of its asset files has a bad pointer to that file, the asset would be read and the error triggered every time the figure was loaded, regardless of whether or not it was used. It does sound as if there may be an issue with the character set, unless you haev saved any moprh assets that might have been responsible.

Thank you, if it is a problem with the character set is there a way to remove it that won't make daz keep asking for the missing file? If I just remove it from the content library it will probably still ask for the file no?

The path of the character preset in the original product ZIP file is : People\Genesis 9\Characters\MarcosGAB\MGAB Sasha, but the path in your screenshot is: People\Genesis 9\Characters\Female\MGAB Sasha. That's why the error message popped up....

    You ever changed the path?

Normally, you better not change the original file path, especially with the products from 3rd-parties, as some vendors there may 'wrongly' define file link(s) or Post-Load in the user-facing preset DUFs...  For this case, you may open the preset duf file with a text editor and check if there's such a 'link'. Technically, you may modify the path there though it's not really recommended as you might modify a lot....

Yes, you would - in principle - have to edit the text file. But have you tried resaving the scene (under a new name)?

Yeah turns out it was just that item. Deleted everything from the runtime, data and genesis 9 and I'm not getting the problem anymore. Should I contact the person who made it and lett them know there product is faulty?

Yeah I know the patths are different that's the problem I put the item straight into the folder from the screenshot and not where it's saying it is. That's what I was getting confused about. So when I did put the item where the error wanted it to be it worked. But that's not where I wanted the item to be I wanted it to be in my custom location as seen in the screenshot but every time I moved it to said location I get the error. I just removed the whole item from my content library and it's all working now so looks like I won't be using said product anytime soon.

This is the only single product I've had this problem with and every single product I have are in custom locations for organisation.

Lots of people who mainly (or only) use Content Library customize folder structure in the way like what you do, esp. for 3rd-party products. Normally there should be no problem in terms of user-facing files. This one might be a specific case...

Seems to be the case here, oh well it is what it is.

With the pre-G9 figures, one can move the so called "User facing files" pretty freely, there are only a few exceptions like the lash material preset for G8F because of the script that is used to apply them.

G9 introduced a lot more scripting, which may limit how the user is able to manually organize content in Content Library
