Geoshell, Iray

Hello,

From what I understand, we need to add geoshell for a proper use of Iray. But, it looks like it creates a new layer. What to do with to original (underneath) geometry?

Do I need to hide it? To delete it? How to do it a clean way?

It looks to me than to keep it allows to use both Iray and PBR, but it is accurate?

Can you explain what you're trying to do exactly?

What do you mean by "Iray", the Iray uber base shader? And where did you get the idea that you need a geoshell to use it? You can apply Iray uber base shader to any surface, there's no need for a geoshell... You use a geoshell when you need an extra layer above the original geometry, that's all.

My purpose is just to have Iray textures.

From what you say, I just have to apply the "Iray uber base" from surface panel -> preset -> shaders before adjusting surface parameters, or I'm missunderstanding?

  • Yes, though if the surface is currently using a standard 3Delight shader (you can see which it is using at top-left of the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane) then DS will do that fior you at render time, so it is worth doing only if you want to make changes that the default conversion doesn't.
