  • How are you lighting the scene? The softer and more even the light the less fine detail will show, as it isn't casting shadows or blocking light from its depths. If you want the detail to be really obvious make sure you have a point, or small source, light shining across from the side. (this is why candlelight and gaslight are said to be more flattering than electric light.)

With the figure selected, go to Surface pane, select Lips surface, filter "Bump" and check the value there... If it's small or even zero, change it to 1 ~ 2 and check the preview / render result.

Or name the product, we may help to check if we own it.

That will work only if the bump is being used for the detail - if there is a map applied to the property and if it is providing the fine detail. It may be coming from normal maps, or on something made for 3delight it may be using displacement (in whichc ase it will probably be necessary to bake the displacement to normals, or apply them to the bump).

One of the biggest things about great promo images is lighting.

Face-on lighting will hide all of that detail. Light from behind and the side and get some shadows to work 'with' the subsurface scattering, bump and normals to get those details to pop!

Several of the characters tend to be "HD" [high definition] so to see all the fine detail in close-up renders it is expected to dial up the resolution [Parameters Tab] to 3 or 4 [or maybe 5 on monster rigs]. As this can significantly impact render times it is practical to dial it back to 2 or maybe 3 [depends on the computer system too] when close-up is not required.
