Hitfilm 4 Pro released and Alembic 3D (PS HF3 express still free)
Just was looking at the info on HitFilm 4 Pro (very nice upgrade it seems and upgrades on sale with a bonus sale through the end of Nov).
I was looking over the 3d aspect and it has Alembic support. I know we have .obj exporters from Fenric I believe, and the Alembic is a compressed .obj along with other things. I wonder if would be worth doing Alembic from Carrara, I know there is a fairly pricey in terms of DS plugins available for DS.
THeir 3d system inside has camera solving through Mocha HitFilm, it would be nice to go back from Mocha to C as well with that data. I Have the full mocha but it doesn't output any formats that Carrara uses, and I haven't found any good explanations of thedata in file formats that Carrara actually supports to try to do a conversion.

well I have the DS Alembic exporter got it on sale, and honestly not that great a format, shame FBX not supported
is limited to 200 frames, untextured at least in Octane standalone, need to redo everything map by map and huge files as objects per frame basically like Lightwave mdd
has a use for HD morphs in Octane standalone for me as I can also import Carrara scenes but not a format of choice
I keep lusting after Hitfilm use the Express, I hope they add FBX it might make me take the plunge
The regular upgrade is unfortunately not discouted... I will buy it anyway in a few days.
Hitfilm doesn't export alembic and it is not compatible with Sony Vegas 13 (Pro).
Thanks upgrading to version 4 now have only used it in one promo need to get into it more over the Xmas holidays.
I wonder if its alembic is the issue or the particular ds implementation, or how it was imported.
I guess the sale is the addon bundle thats good till Nov 30th.
I hope to make a project of bringing the mocha output back to carrara, but I really got to get ahold of the details of the data of the file formats. (I have both MochaPro and of course the HitFilm version).
I just bought Hitfilm 3 for US $299 a few months ago, as it came out just then. Now they're coming out right away with version 4 for $169 more? Do they think I'm the Bank of England? Or the Bank of America? No, I'll pass this time around, thank you very much.
Ouch if it was that short write to sales and see if they can do something for you.. Hitfilm 3 has been out for a while :/ sorry to hear you were hit with the update window.
I heard from Simon Jones on the hitfilm forum thatthe are offering at least a upgrade for people who bought in the last
30days free
Re-Read the post Hitfilm 3 didn't come out a few months ago, it has been a year, a little short on the upgrade cycle for a big update but I ordered mine last november.
People were unhappy about the slow development speed of Hitfilm, so they changed to yearly updates. Now people are unhappy about yearly update fees. No matter what they do, somebody will be unhappy.
There's no doubt that Hitfilm is a good value for the price. I gives you the flexibility of After Effects and Premiere at the same time (even though I prefer Premiere for the final rendering). But everything Hitfilm does, After Effects does better. However, for the price, it's a deal.
I just had the impression that Hitfilm 4 was just out when I bought it four months ago. I guess I was wrong. But I still think asking for an upgrade price of $169 from version 3 to version 4 only a year later is a little bit much. It should be $69. IMO.
i bought the Sony Vegas pro 13 in a bundle with Hitfilm 2 included.
Fxhome released Hitfilm 3 almost immediately and it was $169, if I bought it within a certain tlime.
I thimk it went to $229 or somthing like that afterward.
I saw it awhile back reduce priced and thought better of buying it.
Glad I didn't bite, because HF4 is now out.
I use Sony Vegas Pro alot, and I am expecting a much improved newer version will be released soon enough.
The compettion is getting alot more intense amd Sony will pronbably do one better.
