I use Carrara pro and HEX I dont have time ot make a model of a freightliner M2 truck and found a great one for the money on turbosquid. It only comes in 3DS and max.... With textures... Can I convert this model using HEX or carrara into a usfull format for me in Carrara. Will the maps be in the righ position? Whcih isnt that important I can re size/set those.
ANY HELP!

Carrara can import .3ds files. I've had some bad experiences with free .3ds models from various sources coming in distorted or with pieces blown apart, but from what I've heard Turbosquid has pretty high standards for their models so you should be OK.
You'll almost certainly have to manually load the textures and do some manual work on the shaders, but the UV's will almost certainly import correctly.
I find it annoying they do not show you what is in their libraries or I would look at Digimation
the few digimation models I have bought here and on Rendo I quite like
I am removing link, odd crap going on
the 3 free samples show how nice their stuff is but I am not willing to pay over half a grand not seeing what I am getting though 16K is a lot of models I will admit
Doesn't Turbosquid have a facility to convert models ?
Hex can import 3ds - get a free model and try it out :)
Have you tried Humster3d and CGTrader? The prices look similar and they have oodles of formats. SileneUK
Trust me its not free

Have a look through DMI-3D.net. Their vehcle models are free and I have had nice results with a couple of them (see below). They have categories for cars, commercial vehicles and trucks, military vehicles and race cars.
