Blurry hair issues in render

Hello!

I have been having issues with hair being blurry in both render and viewport render. I have tried solutions such as cutout opacity to .99 and adjusting glossy weight.

This is the hair style I am currently using.

It doesn't look much different than the main promo of the product. The whole image is pretty dark. Does the hair have enough direct light in it? It looks like it may just be backlit. It's hard to tell much from that small snippet.

One thing that will make hair blurry in general is the Post Denoiser in the Filter section of Render Settings. If you have it enabled, you could try disabling it. You may need to render longer then to get a clear image, but is shouldn't be blurred by denoising. I usually disable it for closeup portraits that include hair.

Also in the Filtering section of Render Settings, the default value of Pixel Filter gaussian 1.5 can be pretty soft. I prefer mitchell 1.00 if I want something sharper.

Render settings affect your whole image, not just the hair, so keep that in mind when making changes.

As barbult says, it seems an issue resulting from Denoiser... like the attached SS: normal and Denoiser - On...

Just try turning off Denoiser filter.

  • Thanks for your comments,
I suppose hair details are indeed too fine for a denoiser. I guess ill have to crank up the iterations and render quality and suck up to the longer render times.
    Thanks!

turning off hair for full scene render, and then spot-rendering hair to new window (to be layered in post) usually speeds up render time (although some people seem to dispute this).
