multiple render results in subsequent blank canvases

Hello and thanks in advance for any help, I'm new here. I have a fairly complex scene that I'm rendering from multiple camera angles. The first render always works fine and then after that I can't render or even use iray preview -- it just results in a blank canvas. I have to restart daz and reload the scene and then render it again. As a work-around I've been using render queue by ManFriday which allows me to restart daz after each render, but it really slows down the process. Is there a work around? I have 16GB of vram on a RTX 4090 laptop gpu and checking the system status it never even gets close to using all the vram, usually ~8GB max. I also have a desktop RTX 4080 with 16GB of vram and this problem rarely happens on that machine.

Thanks in advance!

Are you closing the first render window before starting the next? Each keeps all of its data loaded, so that the render can be resumed, so multiple windows (especially for a complex scene) can quickly exhaust memory.

Yes, I'm saving and closing the window after each render.

I'm afraid that fairly complex scene does not only consume < 8GB VRAM... Suggest you install GPU-Z and monitor Memory Used while rendering that scene. Then stop rendering and close the render window. Calculate how much VRAM is available. Pls be noted that Iray Engine consumes appr 2 GB VRAM. This consumption can only be released after closing DS.

So if you ran out of VRAM and did not check fall back to CPU, you'll have a blank render...

GPU-Z shows about 8-9GB of vram used, it's the same on both machines but only the laptop has this issue. It almost feels like there is a setting in daz that's not allowing it to use the full amount of vram (or a setting on the laptop)

So you also could see on GPU-Z panel that GPU Load is >99% when rendering with your Laptop ? And after saving the 1st render or closing the render windows, Memory Used dropped down ? There's no setting in DS that can limit the use of VRAM...
