Hair Hair Where Are You?
Hello, I have a question I have worked with Daz on and off for quite some time but am getting back into it. So I downloaded the program got it all set up, viewed some tutorials, made some scenes and quickly relized there is only 1 set of hair for both male and female in the package.
Looking at the prices money can add up fast, and the hair seems to be sold one at a time. Is there starting packs anywhere? Im created scenes for 2D games, background, etc. Some of them will need a few characters.
I have also looked up the techniques for creating hair as Im a 3D artist, most doing static objects, but there does not seem to be alot of information on this yet or I dont have the website links yet to find out how/what you need to do to make hair for the Genesis line. You can change the material colors it appears but thats it.
Any suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated.

Did you get all of the free starter content? There are separate installers for Genesis, Genesis2 Female and Male, and Genesis3 Female and Male.
There is this thread over in the freebies section that you might take a look at:

Yeah, hair products are a bit on the pricey side in relation to other items, such as clothing. In looking at the meshes, I could see where it might take some time to create a quality product. Another option, if you aren't using Iray for rendering, might be the Look At My Hair or Garibaldi Express products which provide a way to create your own hair.
Yes and only 1 set of hair for them all and thank you both. for the help :)
No...there is at least one hair in each of the Starter Essentials...I think most of them have 2, 1 male and 1 female. And there is other content (example scene bundles that are used for the tutorials) that have some more hair. So there should be at least 4, probably 6 or seven.
Hair is one of the easiest things to pass among the various generations of models. You don't even have to use autofit. Just load the hair, unattached to any model, position/scale and then just parent it to the model. And most shoulder length or shorter hair products do autofit fairly well.
There are lots of hair products out there available at Platinum Club prices. Keep your eye on Fast Grab and the sales. You can find a few hair products on Share CG (but not too many). Also, you can occasionally find hair that comes with a character (Isla - Character and Hair by Valea for example).
With the auto-fit, you can use just about any hair for any figure, then fine tune the fit with the adjustment dials. Some hair figures have more adjustments than others - same with movement. You can see what's available in the "What's Included & Features" section of the product pages.
Fitting Trick:
Some hair simply won't fit a figure, or maybe it will fit but the morph dials won't function. This may be true with V4/M4 hair on a Genesis 1-3 figure, and especially true with some older and fancier V4 hair figures available at Runtime DNA - like the stuff by Arki. In order to fit it and make use of the hair morphs:
One other thing to consider if you're using Iray is to maybe get Slosh's hair shaders (http://www.daz3d.com/uht-hair-shaders-for-iray) . They're really good for a lot of different styles and can make an old V4 hair look like it was meant for G2 or G3. It comes with several different colors as well, so you can get quite a bit of mileage out of a couple of hair styles.
