Surfaces that are difficult to shade

I sometimes encounter surfaces (like pod-3, in the picture attachment) that show up in SCENE tab, but do not appear in SURFACES tab.

...and there seems to be no way to select them, in surfaces, to shade them.

Is there a way to apply a shader to areas I canot locate in the SURFACES tab?- In this case, it is 'pod-3' (The landing pads),  PRODUCT: Toon Rocket and Moonscape.

In my view, any mesh must have a surface.

How are you determin that it hasnt?

What happens if you select it using the surface selection tool?

Can you select it with the Geometry Editor? if so right-click>Geometry Assignment>Create Surfaces from Selected (or if you need to do it in parts, create the surface from the first selection and use Assign to Surface>Surface name for later partial selections).

Press Alt + Shift + M first, move and hover your mouse cursor to the landing pad, you'll see the surface(s) will be highlighted. Have one selected, you'll see the corresponding surface selected in Surface pane.
