My first completed short 3d animation done in Carrara.
Hey guys,
I posted this in the "Art Studio" section but I think the carrara users may find it more interesting since I created the animation totally in Carrara.
I started this animation early this year for a Carrarators Animation contest but I got busy and couldn't finish it. In the last 3 weeks I had some more time so I could finally finish it. I created this movie "Sam" in Carrara 8.5 and used corel video studio 6 and Photopaint as my tools to make the animation. I modeled all the sets and did all of the animation inside of Carrara. I also used some NLA clips I created earlier for the walking parts. It is not lip synced but I am not too worried about it, there are rough spots but I am happy with the final animation.
Does anyone know of a good voice synthesizer to create the different characters voices.(ie child, boy, girl, adult etc.)
Anyways, I hope you like the animation.

Very nice, and it shows what Carrara can do. The early space scenes remind me of the video game "Wing Commander": "The game was a marked departure from the standard formula, bringing space combat to a level approaching the Star Wars films." I played "WCIII: Heart Of The Tiger" (8.9/10 @ IMDB) on the 3DO console in the mid-90's, apparently an enhanced version. The cast includes Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, ... and especially Ginger Lynn, who also made ... other movies (my nephew, who played it a lot, did not believe me). 3DO game sample here (Ms. Lynn @ 4:20, space scene @ 5:30):
Great job! I watched it in a honky tonk where I couldn't really make out the sound, but the visuals are amazing. Congrats. BTW, buy your bbq by the pound here. Ooah!!!!!
Thanks for the comments .
Steve , nice looking game sample . Never played it .
Diomede- buying by the pound sounds dangerous.
Great job !

kewl. did you use any motion paths?
Nice story and character!
Good job lots of work if I may how much time do you think you have into the story start to finish ?
Nice job, Mike!
Thanks for the comments .
MistyMist, I used motion paths for some of the spaceship scenes but that is about it. I didn't use motion paths anywhere else as far as I remember.
Mullhull, As far as the amount of time it is hard to say as I started this so long ago and I worked sporadically on it. I did model most of the sets specifically for this , I did use previous artwork of mine for the paintings/posters and some plant I reused. I spent maybe 10hrs on the sound effects , music and editing the film together, this went quicker than I thought it would. Maybe 60-70hrs of time, just a guess.
you set the bar high lol
very impressive indeed
Nice job! A question: how did you do the explosion of the spaceship (the fireball)? A particle emitter?
I used a bunch of particle emitters going off at slightly different times combined with light bulbs increasing and decreasing in Brightness and Lens flares(explosion type). It was really an exercise in timing the Particle Emitters and Lights together to get the explosion to work . Thanks for the comment.
Bigh , I did look at ScreamingBee voice synthesizer . It looks good. Thanks
Great job. Really enjoyed it.
