What causes this to happen and what can I do about it?

In the Parameters pane option menu>Preferences (the lined button in the top corner) uncheck Consolidate Proerpties and you should see three sliders with the same label, you can then edit them in Parameter Settings so they are distinct.

You've checked the option of Consolidate Properties, so the properties with the same Labels are consolidated....
