How to find your way around a 2D texture for a modification

Hi everyone, 

I'd like to make tan lines on the G8F 2D texture but it's not easy on a 2D texture.

Do you know if there are templates to do this?

Do you know a better solution?

    Well, UV template is as same as the texture map you have but just in a different format. It's not easy to add tan lines on 2D texture map with an image editor, especially when tan lines cross the seams.

    So that's why we usually paint textures on 3D model with Blender or Substance Painter, etc, then bake the maps.

    If you know Blender, I recommend a free but pretty good add-on : https://github.com/ucupumar/ucupaint/releases

     For a single image it is not difficult to add tan lines in post work. I used the airbrush in GIMP on this image. Create a separate layer, paint in white, change layer attribute to addition, and reduce opacity to desired level.

     GIMP has a selection of tools that mimic real world art implements such as a pencil or paint brush, etc. Airbrush is one of the available tools. Think spray paint can but with much more precision and built in fine adjustments. Airbrush is a great tool for creating soft edges and gradient color on an image.

    Thanks for the explanation.. I believe Photoshop also has Airbrush?

    I am sure that PS has an equivalent. I have not used that program in a very long time.
