is there a huge diffrence between the two, i am currently using iray but i seen alot use both
The most crucial thing about those "good quality" renders is lightning. No matter which render engine you use, you have to learn to light your scene to make it look good. Different render engines handle light sources differently, so, for example, what works in 3Delight does not work in Iray. Learning good lightning is an ongoing process that does never stop.
The second important thing for "good quality" renders are materials. As with lightning, different render engines handle materials (and how they look in the render) differently. Depending on the engine you want to use, learn how the materials are set up and learn to adjust them. If you want to look a surface like black leather, tweak it until it looks like black leather. Dont be satisfied with dark grey plastic :-)
Another important thing is posing. Most poses look a bit stiff and unnatural. So, for a good image, tweak the poses to get a natural and relaxed look. Take care of all the body parts. Especially if you use custom shaped figures, pose tweaking is essential.
Last but not least, I want to mention postwork. There are a lot of different opinions about postworking renders here in the forums, but in art everything is allowed to reach the goal you are after. Postwork combines everything from slight tonal or color adjustments to completely overpainting parts of your image. Fact is that some clever postwork can turn an average render into an awesome image.
Once I read something funny about piano playing: Playing the piano is very simple. Just press the right keys at the right time, and you play wonderful music... Its the same with 3D Art. Very easy. Load a figure, pose her, light her, render. Done.... Well, not, of course. It is all a learning process. How to pose a figure to make it look good, how to tweak the materials to make them look real, how to set lightning for a good image, and finally how to eventually postwork the render to make it even better.
how do you do post work what is it? i never heard of it and i dont know the first thing about it
Post work, work that is done to an image after you have finished rendering it. Some tips here PostWork Tips
In this thread you can see a few examples. Before postwork and after. Just to see whats possible after rendering... :-)
i keep seeing photo shop what kind should i get the all in one or what as well?
You can use any image editing software that you like.
Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, Gimp, PaintNET,... and many others. Depends on your budget and preferences. You can use whatever you want.
But please beware, postworking is only one aspect among many others. Lightning, materials, posing and other things are equally important - if not even more. Generally, with some postwork you usually make a good image better. But you cannot make a bad image good.
Of the programs mentioned, I believe Gimp is still freeware. I have Corel, myself.
Postwork is also the mundane cropping, resizing, bordering, format conversions etc. It is also nice to have a program capable of decent texture manipulations, something not directly part of rendering but important for materials, backgrounds, and many other things.
I'd work on getting the renders well lit with realistic posing, then worry about postwork. If your scene isn't good, postwork won't matter much.
And all the other posts above that mention good lighting posing etc. I love post work, HOWEVER, I work to get my renders to be the absolute best that I can first, then, when I can't go any further, it goes to post work. i wanted to add serveral of my photos i did but they couldn't be added they were 15mb and it wouldnt even how do i get the file size down
You probably have to convert to .jpg and resize if it is still huge. MSPaint can do this. You can also set to .jpg in your render save settings in DAZ.
