Yep, you just add it to the categories in content library.(right click>Create a sub-category)
Once you add an item to the category(right click the item(s)>categorize), it'll show up in smart content.
You may not get the tags on the images, as that's a bit more involved process to update/create the meta-data, and i'm not familiar enough with smart content(i organize on a file/folder level and manually install) to advise on that process.
