How do you fine-tune your expressions? Problem with Iray loading times.

Hello,

This might be a question which is hard to understand when you are on an RTX 4090 GPU, but I think many out there are not. I have a decent PC with an RTX 3060. As a beginner (4 weeks) I hope somebody shows me the magic button:
When fine-tuning character expressions it is crucial to move expression sliders and mix and try and mix and try. However, evaluation of what happens takes at least 15 seconds in Iray preview mode.
Filament view is faster to work with, but for subtle expressions I need Iray mode to see the result. Sometimes I spend hours just testing, this is really frustrating.

Are there any settings which I do not know or is a bigger GPU my last ressort?
Thanks for any input and I hope other 3060 Dazzies don't have the same problem :-)

You could try hiding everything else in the scene, including the hair, while tweaking the expression in iray mode? That might make things quicker?

  • This actually helped a lot, I had a scene with hundreds of items and one thing I had to learn is to pack them in meaningful groups, so hiding / showing them was an easy task.

It improved to a few seconds now, when I only have my character in the preview without any environment just a hdri for light.

Thank you very much for your input yes

Iray preview is slow, I never use it with my RTX 3060 12GB

I use texture shaded and if I want to see what the scene looks like rendered in Iray, I just let it do regular render - In about 2 minutes I already have a good enough picture to see if it was as I wanted.
