How can I move the pivot point (and thus the universal tool) relative to a Gen 8 figure?

As I have been moving my figure about the scene and posing it, the pivot point has drifted very far away from where the figure is. I am trying to recenter it, however the method I have found in various videos and tutorials does not seem to apply to my situation. These tutorials all seem to deal with moving the pivot point relative to a simple object or primitive, is there a different method when working with a figure?

The advice I have seen is to go to Tools > Joint Editor, and click and drag the arrows coming from the green dot. However when I do that, it moves the figure and the pivot point. I am trying to move ONLY the pivot point.

Is there any way to move the pivot point only, so that it is closer to the figure?

It sounds as if one/more of the poses you have used, have used hip translation, instead of figure translatio.

So if you add the hip translation to the figure, and reset your hip translations to 0, the origin point should be back at the figure.

  • This has been happening to me a lot lately. How'd I move that pivot point when I wasn't trying to? Thanks so much!!

You can transform the whole figuer using the Hip bone or the actual figue node (Genesis 9 Base or whatever). If you or a preset use the hip to translate the figure then the figure node stays where it was, and if you then select the figure node it will be offset from the model. That is why felis says to move the translations from the hip to the figure node - the only time the hip should be used is for relative placement, such as positioning two figure to interact properly (then you can move their figure nodes in the same way to place them in the scene without interfering with the interactive pose).

You are basically confusing animation/posing with figure setup. Moving the pivot as you're requesting is for setup, not for posing, and you do it in the joint editor. Once the pivot is setup you animate either the figure or the hip depending on your needs, as others explained above.
