PC feels like it's "sleeping" sometimes when using daz.
Sorry for the confusing title, I wasn't sure how else to word it. This is a problem I've ONLY noticed in Daz, never in any other program.
About 70% of the time or so, Daz works perfectly, with no issues. But then another 30% of the time I notice an issue. Basically what's happening, is daz is freezing after every action (or sometimes mid-action) - the fans in my PC rev up for a bit, and then for about 10-15 seconds or so daz will freeze up. After 10-15 sec, the fans rev down and I can work again - but the next interaction will cause another freeze. Usually this will continue for about 10-15 minutes, until everything works normally again. At that point I can work in it for hours without any issue, but seemingly randomly it'll start doing it again at some point, for another 10-15 minutes. So far I haven't been able to pin down any cause.
Note: This is NOT related to smoothing modifiers, or viewport tesselations or anything like that. Very occasionally I'll have those sorts of issues, and I sort them out pretty quickly - but this will happen regardless of what's in the scene. (Even if I just load a naked basic gen8 figure into an empty scene - just trying to bend the arm will result in a freeze for a few seconds).
Currently running a ryzen 9 3950x, 128gb ram, msi 4090, and an m.2 drive.
If I run photoshop, or aftereffects, or blender, or a game, nothing else ever gives me this issue EXCEPT daz. Currently on 4.22.0.16. (Not sure if that's the latest public or not, but it's what I'm currently running). I noticed this exact same issue when I was on 4.20 and 4.21 though.

DS is heavy on the resources and what you experience may be due to Windows housekeeping, especially if you haven't 'tamed' the OS
You know - I actually went through the trouble when I installed the OS (This was a while ago - over a year) to disable most tasks, and do it every time I install something new. (Nothing I hate more than scheduled updaters. I'll update when I want to tyvm).
What I never did do though was drill through the myriad of windows default tasks in all the submenus - I only focused on the higher level ones. I do also run win10 pro - which gives me access to group policies - which I use quite extensively. This allowed me to disable a lot of things at that level. (For example my PC doesn't ever run windows update - I run it myself periodically).
I really should take the time and go through all of the nonsense tasks and shut off a lot of them. I already do plenty of regular housekeeping on my own - I don't need the PC doing it for me.
Still - you'd think I'd see *some* effect in any other program besides daz. You may be right, or it may be something else. I'll have to browse my way through the task scheduler for a bit and see what happens afterwards.
Edit: I will note, when it happens, it rarely coincides with any increased activity. I didn't even think to mention this before but since it's happening right now, it dawned on me - CPU usage is often below 20%, with no extra strain on the memory when it happens.
One task that sometimes isn't quite user friendly is indexing - have you noticed the HD-led lighting up at the same time when you loose control?
I have disabled indexing completely on my computers, because it steals focus and resources when I don't to give them and it doesn't do what it is supposed to do (helping one find stuff faster)
I don't have any indicatiors on this pc. (Aside from the power button lighting up when it's turned on). There might be one on the board, but I'm not opening up the case to try and look at it. Besides that, given where the case is, I'd need to be able to bend my body in ways Im pretty sure I haven't been capable of in many years to try and see it while keeping an eye on the monitor to see if it came back or not. I can say drive usage (Going by task manager) is often around 10% or so.
I do have indexing turned on currently - I could disable it and see what happens.
If the freezes are related to increased fan noise is the issue temperature related? Which fans are spinning up? How are the temps?
Nah, it's not temp related. Well it is, but... I have a profile that ramps up the fans above 40c on the gpu or system temp. My gpu and system temp never go above 50c, CPU normally sits around 50. It maxes around 95 the few times I overload my vram and bump daz to CPU rendering - but otherwise, its never above 60.
..... Yes, I may have overdone it a bit on the cooling, but hey my system stays frosty. The hottest part of the entire build tends to be the SSD, which averages in the mid 60s.
I've got a similar system and it's not a behaviour I've seen. 13700k, 4090, 64gb, SSDs. My fans are locked to one speed so I wouldn't have noticed anything there.
Random thoughts, are you working online and it's a firewall issue or cloud saving issue?
Do you have a ton of morphs loaded and does the issue persist if you use a figure that you don't own many morphs for?
Have you got any motherboard software loaded? Before I deleted mine it would tank performance when it wanted to update.
Is the behaviour the same in all viewport modes?
Not working online. I do have a ton of morphs, but the majority are for g8 and 8.1. Even if I load a g9 (for which I don't have too many morphs) or a g3 (very few) it still persists. No MB software loaded - 90% of that stuff is bloatware anyway.
As far as viewports go - I'm not sure. I work almost exclusively in texture shaded - I only swap to iray preview when I'm working on lighting. It's pretty random when it happens, so I'd have to remember to test it in a different viewport next time, though I doubt it'll make a difference.
if you have the HEAT plugin; uninstall it, and see if that fixes your problem.
does not matter if you are not 'using it', if it's installed daz will load it.
