DS 4.22 Unexpected Nice Thing

I get really gun-shy about new stuff.  Especially when it comes to software.  I know that there are going to be issues a-plenty when a new or updated version is released (we ARE, after all, the actual beta), so I put off installing as long as I can.  It's especially worrisome when it comes to Daz Studio and my graphics card driver because I happen to make money with my art month by month, so if something happens to screw up my workflow in a big way, I lose revenue.  So I had not updated to DS 4.22.  I knew there were still some lingering issues even after all this time, but I didn't know if said issues would impact my work.  Same for my graphics driver, as I know that NVIDIA drivers can sometimes glitch renders.  After a certain amount of time, though, I couldn't keep putting it off.  Some of the new products (I'm looking especially at YOU, hair products) were not going to work as well unless I moved up to 4.22.  So I saved two copies of 4.21 and then made the upgrade to both my DS and my NVIDIA driver.  And crossed my fingers.

Well, I'm very pleased to report that, so far, I've not noticed any problems.  In FACT...all of my loading has gotten faster.  And I mean, MUCH faster.  I've got hundreds of Gen 8 and 8.1 figures, so anytime I had to load up a Gen 8 or 8.1, I also had time to go out shopping and have lunch at a restaurant while it was happening.  No joke.  Really, really slow.  Immediately after the upgrade to 4.22 I decided to load in a scene I had been working on.  It contained FOUR Gen 8.1 figures, so I knew it was going to be a long wait.  I turned around to put some food in the cat's bowl and then walked down the hall to fill the water bowl.  I came back and sat down in front of my computer.  And the scene was there.  Wait...what?  It took about a minute and a half.  I started experimenting.  Not only was everything loading at (for me) unheard of speed, but shutting down Daz had also sped up!  I don't know if other people were experiencing ungodly slow shutdowns of Daz, but mine had been taking sooooo long.  Well, no more!  I don't exactly know what happened, but WOW.  Sure glad that it did.

Boy, if only I had known this was gonna happen, I would not have waited nearly so long to upgrade.  So, thank you, Daz for 4.22.  I know you catch a lot of flak from people when things don't go as well as they would like, so I thought I'd offer up some praise from an appreciative artist.

...would love to update reading that, but I'd have to go back to rendering on the CPU again as Win 7 support ended with Nvidia driver 474.11 (ancient hardware). All releases after that (starting with the 4.21.1.13 beta) require a driver that only works with Win 10/11. frown

That's great news. I'm happy for you! I hadn't read that before. I'm still putting off upgrading, but that may be my tipping point.

Don't forget, you can save your Studio installers (and any dependent plug-ins with the Studio Version in the product title) to a safe place and revert at any time. Using DIM offline, you can install any previous version by copying the files to your download folder and refreshing the view. I copy every version as it becomes available, even if I don't install them. You never know what might might work, or not.
