Matari3D I Need Some Clarification On A Product

I was able to get the clown bundle a while back and was just going over teh items to plan some renders. The bundle inclused hair and clothes for G8 and G8.1 so that's good. However, for the Clown Generator, the download file says 8.1, on the product page it say compatible with 8.1, the description on the product page say 8 and 8.1 so I'm confused. Will this work on G8M or only 8.1

    (I don't have the product)

It uses a geoshell and there is only one one the file list:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/87758/file_list

If the geoshell is only for the face, I think it should work on both Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1 characters. If it's for more than the face, no idea: I know how to adapt a Genesis 8 geoshell for Genesis 8.1, but I don't know how to do it in the opposite direction.

It has a full-body geoshell which when first applied coats the figure in grey paint/makeup. I don't think I can post a comparison image without falling foul of the image rules but it does not quite work on G8M. Between G8M and G8.1M the "Torso" surface was split up and renamed "Body" and "Head" in G8.1M and so the geoshell only works on the limbs and face - the torso and back of the head do not gain the makeup.

The root reason of being unable to use it on G8M is that the product just gives separate Body and Head texture maps rather than holistic Torso maps...If the vendor made the latter, it can be used on both G8M / G8.1M ~~

So the description on the product page related to G8M is wrong. There's a way to split Torso surface on G8M into Body and Head and import as new UV Sets... so that all the shell product for G8.1 Only can be used on G8M. But I don't think it's really necessary to do so. Just simply upgrade your G8M characters to G8.1M if needed.

First, select your G8M, save a Properties Preset with Shaping and Materials checked only. Then load a G8.1M Base figure or Dev Load, apply the saved Properties Preset on it. Done !

Seriously need to do something about my lack of sleep.

Why do I want to upgrade the G8M to G8.1M, can I use G8 morphs on the 8.1 by doing this. If not, can the reverse be done so the textures work on G8M.

All morphs from G8 can be seen and dialed on G8.1, but it cannot be done reversely by default.... And texture maps from G8.1 cannot be used on G8 if the texture maps were separately made for Body and Head surfaces. The ways to use them on G8 is either to split Torso surface into Body / Head on G8, or convert texture maps... as I mentioned before...

Probably the biggest reason to go from G8M to G8.1m is ease.  If you have a character such as a mythical Peter 8.0, you can load Peter 8.0, pose the various 8.0 poses and textures, etc... If you want to load it to make an 8.1 character, you load the default and free Genesis 8.1 character, you load the product's shape and textures and pose (done in seconds).  You can also use newer 8.1 characters and mix morphs and textures with the 8.0 stuff you have.  The only small issue is expressions; 8.1 introduced more reliance on the technology that 9.0 and later figures use.  The 8.0 expressions are gently blocked by dummy files to prevent confusion but can be easily removed to enable the use of both 8.0 and 8.1 expressions (there are oh so many explanations on how to do this https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/477386/how-to-get-genesis-8-expressions-working-on-genesis-8-1?srsltid=AfmBOop5i2EsVOOdqXTEtkLxF9NHkS_0fT-GTg5ZuGOXr2ewKRaFxnKt).  Going backwards is hard as reverse engineering is very hard; you have to rename surfaces in the files that describe textures and morphs to conform to 8.1's new surfaces.  Little will work out of the box...  Hierarchical mats and poses won't work as is since they call on different surfaces.  Once you have spent the time on getting one product to work, you have to repeat for every other.  Currently, pretty much every morph works with 8.1, most textures (and the ones that don't could be edited to work relatively quickly).  Frankly, I see no advantage to working backward.

Ya I know about the bones in the G 8.1 face for better expressions.
