Smart Content not showing/Daz Connect problem SOLVED

EDIT: SOLVED!

All right! So thanks to this discussion: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/16599/the-mac-faq/p72 finally figured out what was going wrong. It's the external drive formatting that was causing the problem, not the file paths! Mac is picky about case-sensitive drives, and it appears my external drive was case-sensitive. Once I reformatted the drive to APFS, I could reinstall content via DIM and it all started showing up again. PHEW!

So, what I did was FIRST REFORMAT EXTERNAL DRIVE TO APFS, then go into DIM, change all the install paths from Users/Shared/MyDaz 3D Library etc to [My Drive]/Users/Shared/My Daz 3D Library, etc. I basically made identical file paths for everything, thumbnails, downloads, the lot, on my new drive. Then went into Daz Studio and changed the paths in Content Directory Manager. Then reinstalled content via DIM. Voila, all showing up in Smart Content, finally working as it should.

So I decided to move my content to an external drive since it was taking up so much space, and after weeks of effort still haven't got it working properly. I've gone round in circles trying to fix it for so long I'm pretty sure I've just made the problem worse. I've confused myself so thoroughly I just can't tell what's supposed to be where. For instance, is it right that DIM is installing to Users/Shared but Daz is looking for content in Users/Username?

My content is showing in Content Library, but not Smart Content (screenshot attached). When I reinstall something through the product library (so I guess Daz Connect) it shows up in the My Daz Connect Library folder (screenshot) where, according to Finder, all the other files are, but Daz can't see to see them. I just can't get Daz Connect to recognise my content is there unless I reinstall it ALL--and the same happens with installing new content, too.

So, here are screenshots of my install paths on DS and DIM. I've been trying to find an example of what they should be, but I can't. Can anyone tell me where I've gone wrong, please? I think this is what going mad feels like.

Looking at your screenshots it looks like that the DIM path is the 2nd in Daz Studio and Poser format, so that is ok.

But you should not include Connect path in DS and Power path. Connect install is independent from DIM, so if you install with both you will have 2 installations, with Connect taking priority.

You could try to reimport metadata.

What happen if you actually try to load anything? Look in Help > Troubleshooting > View Log Fil.

  • Okay, I took out the Connect path so now it looks like this (screenshot), exported and re-imported metadata. Same problem.

When I try to load something, I get the 'file does not exist' error (screenshot). The log looks like this:

    Might try reinstalling. Again.

Well, that was an even worse idea.

I uninstalled both Daz and DIM, moved all the installed files to the bin, and started again, reinstalling completely clean through DIM. I've tried this several times now, and keep getting the same problem: PostGreSQL CMS will not install (see screenshot). It'll download, but it will NOT install. I've clicked retry a million times, I've quit and reopened DIM, I've uninstalled and reinstalled DIM. I've tried the suggestions in this thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/629881/dim-not-installing-anything and in this solved-new-pc-ds-not-installing-error, incuding tracking down Daz Central and using that to install Daz (it did, but didn't fix the CMS issue). I tried the fix apparently suggested by Daz, involving downloading a certificate--but that link just opened Keychain on my Mac, which I don't think was the goal? (even if it was, I couldn't see anything relevant there). I've tried searching for and deleting anything that looks like it might be Daz-related so it's not clashing with a previously installed file. I've tried dragging the old CMS file out of the bin back into the location it was before in case removal was the problem. Same result every time.

This is what Daz's log file says:

2024-09-09 06:14:00.020 [WARNING] :: /src/sdksource/cloud/dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(184): Unexpected exception in contentFilterPathsToCloudInstalledContent: Unable to connect to the database

    And here's what DIM's says:

If CMS is not working, I am pretty certain that Smart Content will not work.

The issue with CMS installation might have to do with security limitations, but I have no clue of how to handle a Mac.

It might be that content library still would work - not sure.

CMS was working before I did the reinstall. I could login, and I could see my product library full of uninstalled things. But a) I didn't want to have to reinstall everything and b) installing new content via DIM wasn't installing into Smart Content, hence the reinstall.

Now CMS won't install at all. I'm taking steps backwards here!

Okay. I left it overnight, re-opened Daz, and now I'm not getting th eCMS error, However, DIM still says it hasn't installed CMS--I'm still getting the error message that it needs to install CMS whenever I open it, and when i try, it gets stuck on install. It's not even trying and failing now, just sitting there at 0%. It's now trying to reinstall ALL my content and they're ALL stuck at 0%.

Meanwhile in Daz, the Smart Content panel is entirely empty--no error messages about missing files as before. The Product Library is all greyed out. I tried installing one figure through Connect, and it worked, but if I right-click it, it's offering me 'vitrual folder' not 'mapped folder' in Content Library. That virtual folder comes from Daz Connect, not My Daz 3D Library, which is only showing the Genesis basics that come with the install.

I'm even more confused now. (PS it took me two tries to upload screenshot and refreshing the page got an error message about the host being down, so... is it actiually Daz?)

  • So I found there was an extra weird install path in DIM, which I didn't add and I've no idea how it got there (it was saving content to Applications/Documents I think). So I got rid of that, reinstalled... but I'm still having the same problem. Managed to jury-rig CMS by dragging an old version of it out of the bin, but DIM still keeps trying and failing to install it, and various other items (most of them very old sztuff that comes with Daz, but some are like Gen 8 Starter Essentials). I even tried buying Content Wizard to force stuff into Smart Content, but that wonb't work, pribably because of the same reason nothing else will.

I don't really know why I'm updating this any more. A log for myself, just in case I try fixing it again and can't remember what I tried last time.
