Using dForce clothing/hair on other figures/generations question.

Hello,

Not being very familiar with dForce clothing and hair, I was wondering if dForce items that were made for one generation of characters would work on another? For example dForce clothing and hair for G8 on G9 or vice versa. Does autofit break dForce? Or if you just parent a hair item for example, does dForce still work as is or do you have to play with the settings?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Autofit does not break dForce.

But hair with a cap, and the hair parented to the cap, cannot be autofitted, i.e. it can autofit but the result look weird.

Clothing I will usually autofit, and hair (especially SBH) I will usually just position (and scale) and parent to head.

As far as I know, unlike bones and rigid follow nodes, autofit doesn't remove dForce (I think it's mainly a property of the surfaces of the clothes). It should work on clothes (no idea on hairs I never used a G9 hair on G8 and vice versa).

Having said that, you may have more problems with dForce autofited clothes compared to using the same dForce clothes on their intended generation:

    • the geometry will likely not be exactly the same and some parts of it may have been moved too close to the figure or moved in a strange position
    • parts could also now intersect with other parts of the autofit clothing (G9 figures having legs closer to each other on their staring position compared to G8 means autofitted dresses and skirts are more likely to explode during simulation than shirts or pants)

As an example of the later, not related to autofit, I recently got a nice pairs of G8/G9 pants. I converted it manually to G3 (following the various methods shared to avoid using autofit) and I had to change G3 starting position: the pants of the legs were too close to each other and some part were stuck during the whole simulation. No explosion, but the pants didn't drap as it should, which was fixed by changing G3 starting position to get her legs in the same starting position as G8 legs.
