How are you installing? Does the zip only have thumbs or can't you see them in DS?

    >>> inclued to lurnch file

What files?  What are "to lurnch" files?

If you are talking about textures, have you made sure to download all of the zip files?

    Error

  • What files are you missing? Lurnch looks close to launch, are you saying you can't tell Daz Central to open DS and load the file in one go? If you tell us what is wrong we can, if necessary, flag it up for a fix.

    OK Lets atart again.

Launch files (not lurnch, typo on my part) = ".duf"  files.

I install ALL my Daz stuff manually. because the file names are a mess. For so many reasons it would take tolong to go into now.

back to "Liliana for Genesis 9 Feminine"

After down loading the zip file I extracted the folders.

    Content>data,People,Runtime.

Data & Runtime files goto data & runtime

    in People I find.

    Genesis 9>Characters a folder named "Chrryt" a "CHT Liliana 9 Female.duf" file."CHT Liliana 9 Female.duf.png" image and a "CHT Liliana 9 Female.tip.png" image

In the "Chrryt" folder I find another folder "Liliana" in that lots and lots of ".png" images, see attached picture. But no ".duf" files.

I have down loaded it tree times now, on two computers with the same result.

Look in the folder under that called Iray. Looks like the icons just got duplicated.

Wow, look at that! Richard not only makes typos, he can also decipher them! cheeky

Thank you ChangelingChick. That looks to be the case. but where are al the other stuff, Shaping presets. Add ons?

that you normally find and how the heel did this get pass QC.

This was a first time buy for me from this vendor. will have to think hard before I buy another from them.

Shaping presets aren't a requirement in characters, but every one of those icons you were looking for files for are in the iray folder. You'll notice the Daz base characters (Victoria 9 for example) don't come with them. Generally the expectation with characters is that you load the character preset. If not, and you want to mix it, you can use the parameter dials to dial it in as much or as little as you want in part or whole. Shaping presets that are included are a courtesy, but rest assured everything about the character is fully functional without them.

As for how it was missed, all characters and products are tested within DS itself, and if they work and are to standard, they ship. Icons and tips without associated files won't show up within DS, and the scripts they use to detect extra image files in the runtime won't detect extra icons in the People folder, so something like this is an easy miss. But I'll talk to the fellow who wrote the scripts and see how difficult it would be to adjust them to catch the icons.

  • myotherworld There is No need to install contents manually, unless these are from places other than Daz Store.

You have to do that via DIM (Daz Install Manager) this application will take care of the files being installed properly.

Doing a manual install, take time, usually as I said before, if you have got some content from places like Rendo and others.

If a Character, Environment, Props or anything bought from the Store does not work as it should, then contact Daz Support, these people are in charge to hadle it and wait for a fix.

It may take some time, but is worth the wait.

Manual installation takes 4 clicks and a few seconds

  • PerttiA Only if you have a few items.

I got many free items, I have to navigate between one folder to another, open the archive and select the structured folders and presto.

But is a tediuos process, I don't complaint, just highlight the situation.

I always manually install,  no biggie.

  • I am never letting DIM/DAZ Central near my machine. Manual install only for me.

    Regards,

DIM all the way for me. It is so convenient for installing and also uninstalling. It tells me when there is a product update. It shows me a list of installed files with a link directly to each one. The search filtering is excellent. I can see info like the package date. I can install the Beta (public build) DS version which is far ahead of the general release!

There is always a need to manually install files, but that is up to personal choice. There are way to many examples over the years of produicts not working like they should and DAZ either taking to long to get it fixed or it not being fixed at all. So while I can appreciate the thought, some users just want to take personal responsibility for the files on their system. I personally believe every user should have an understanding of the file paths and structure of the files for products used in DS. Something they will never understand if they install everything thru DIM or Central and use smart content to find product.

I agree with the above statement, but many of us get plenty of experience working with file paths and the structure of the files for products used in DAZ by purchasing products from other sites. Some vendors on other sites make sure we're challenged because they admit they use "creative" file structures (as long as they make sense to them, why should they care?). When I install products purchased from DAZ I always start with DIM before I resort to a manual installation. The vast majority of the time it works perfectly for me, and saves a lot of time and frustration.

If this is thread is devolving into an informal poll of preferred installation methods, I'll say both as needed - Most stuff I buy here gets installed with DIM - Convenient! But I usually get rid of the vendor-specific wrappers for the user-facing files - Not for data or textures. Those I know to leave alone! Items I buy from other stores are always manual install. That's just how it goes. And no, I don't bother with smart content.

The only things I install through DIM are one's that can't be manually installed. I have no intention of fighting with scripts that have a habit of messing up locations, files or just breaking down so you can't use them.

It's a personal preference, plus I don't like to be bullied into using something I don't want to. That being said, it would be a good idea to not insist people use a particular thing just because you like, not everyone is going to agree with you.

This thread is to help the OP understand where the files are that they installed, not what script to use to install them.

  • barbultTaozbutterflyfish Count me in, DIM can handle the products sold here in the Store.

I know how to do File Management, is really important, that's why I find no problems when doing manual install for files from other places than Daz.

At first, I was having that problem, but now I understand the situation and how I overcame it.
