Help with Geometry Editor (Weightmapping a long skirt)

Hello, I am quite new to Daz so apologies if I've missed something obvious.

I'm following a long dress: weightmapping tutorial. In the tutorial, they add the toe and foot to the shin on both sides. When I click on lShin (after adding the selected groups), the lShin includes both feet, so I want to change this. The highlight colour is red but I can't seem to alter it, I can only add or remove orange. The rShin is fine.

I hope that makes sense - image attached. Thank you

Whata re you editing? That looks like a person's legs, not a kirt, and it isn't clear to me if you are group editing or weight editing

  • My apologies, I had the skirt layer hidden to show the issue better. The avatars default legs are fine but when I add the skirt (complete the transfer utility), it messes up.

So which is the issue with - the skirt or the figure? Which tool is active (checked in the Tools menu)?

  • I think the issue is with the figure, but only once I add the skirt. The active tool is the Geometry Editor. For context, my main problem is that my dress or skirt designs are getting distorted in Daz3D when I change avatar poses, so I'm trying to figure out why that's happening.

(My photo attachments don't always upload with my comments so I will put a google drive link to the photos here just in case: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1wrPBE8zqLL02ODXWFy1CxR3Ix6fSTycL?usp=sharing)

Thank you for your help and patience with my slow replies.

Right-click>Geometry Locking>Unlock All Polygons will clear any locks, but orange is the seelction colour so I am not sure what other colours you are expecting. If you want to edit weight (from blue to red) you need the Node Weightmap Brush tool.

  • Is there something I can do to edit the red highlighted area?

There's less you can do with Geometry Editor, just assign Face Groups of  left / right Foot/Toes to Shins. Then switch to Node Weight Brush to refine the weight, with pose triggerred of course.

Then go for fixing pJCMs and give the dress dForce ready. Done ~
