DAZ 4.23 non Premier is supposed to fit G9 clothing to G8 but doesn't?!?
As the DAZ Blog states...
Expanded Versatility for Genesis 8 Figures
Enjoy Genesis 8 auto-fit enhancements, which allow you to use Genesis 9 clothing on your Genesis 8 and 8.1 figures with more accurate fitting. This gives you access to a larger wardrobe without worrying about awkward fits, making your characters even more versatile. Genesis 8 clothing and hair can now fit onto Genesis 9 characters, and for the first time ever, Genesis 9 outfits and hair are now backwards compatible with Genesis 8 and 8.1 figures
...I installed DAZ 4.23 and immediately tried this new feature with the G9 Basic Wear on the G8F, but in the autofit dialog that appeared no G9 option for the original figure was shown. Next I tried https://www.daz3d.com/x-fashion-sport-swimsuit-and-bikini-set-for-genesis-9 but the result was the same.
Any ideas how to solve it?

There is apparently a content update yet to come - this is not part of the base application package.
so its basically the cart before the horse kind of deal. Sell the new without the infrastructure being in place to get it or utilize it. Daz soon steps in.
If you read the blog post (https://www.daz3d.com/blog/daz-studio-premier-and-daz-studio-4-23-updates), the G9 to G8 clothing feature seems to be included in the Daz 4.23 version for all but if you watch the video on the same page, it seems to be a Premier version feature. Well, I could be wrong...
The autofit feature is featured () in both videos, the one about Daz 4.23 (the first to appear on the page) and the one about Daz Premier Studio (the second) unlike some features we know are exclusive to Daz Premier and who are only shown in the second video.
There should've been an updated G8 Starter Essentials package in which a G9 Clone is provided. But actually, one can easily make G9 Clones for G8 by using fit-suit method (introduced by Jay) in 10 mins.
I made them from very beginning plus ERC Freeze on them. They work perfectly for auto-fit, transferring corrective morphs, converting smart Props from G9 to G8, etc.
I have Premier , It doesn’t have this function, and the effect is a mess.
Sorry, but what's DAZ Premier?
It's a new membership tier being offered by DAZ
I'm not interested in premier and I already have G9 clones for G8... should I update? Does the new version break or significantly change anything? Does GenX still work? Many thanks if someone can share!
To expand a bit: that new membership tier includes access to new Daz Studio tools (based on plugins previously offered as separate products that Daz bought), and what is called "Daz Premier" is Daz Studio with those tools enabled.
There's a blog post about the new features: https://www.daz3d.com/blog/daz-studio-premier-and-daz-studio-4-23-updates
AFAIK GenX still works.

From a different thread:
Download was successful and G9 Clothes on G8 (only tested G8F) works...
Has anyone gotten this to work?
I have Daz updated to the latest Public Build and while I can see the geometry sculpting, shape transfer, etc. What I was looking forward to the most was the enhanced auto-fit.
I do have Premiere connected to my account.
However, it doesn't mention G9 like it does in the video.
I updated all the starter essentials and checked whatever else I could download from the DIM, but to no avail.
Only up to G8.
What am I missing?
In File Browser, go to: your Daz Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\DAZ 3D\Clones Check if there's a file named CloneGenesis9.dsf
If there is, press F2 in DS, Clear DSON Cache Files, then load a G8F into the scene, load a G9 clothing on it, you'll see G9 clone in autofit list.
If you couldn't find the above clone file, completely re-install the latest packages of Genesis 8 Starter Essentials.
As can be seen in my post above your's, after downloading the files mentioned (in the part I quoted) through the DIM and installing them, for me the auto fit option for G9 to G8 is available in the auto fit menu that pops up when loading a G9 piece of clothing on a G8 figure.
I have 4.23 with the latest content update. The G9 to G8 hair fits are messed up. Here is an example with OOT's "Late Summer Bangs Style" hair.
Auto-fit this type of SBH from OOT onto G8F in the way you did would not directly work ~~ Fit them in the way as below:
1) Unselect G8F, load the hair into the scene, cancel auto-fit ! Unparent Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands and Late Summer Bangs Style Cap from Late Summer Bangs Style Hair
2) Then, fit OOT SBH Face Dummy, Late Summer Bangs Style Hair, Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands and Late Summer Bangs Style Cap to G8F, one by one in order, by using Genesis 9 clone.
3) Reparent Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands and Late Summer Bangs Style Cap to Late Summer Bangs Style Hair ... if you'd like to.
Edit: a reminder ~
Material Presets in this hair product are all Hierarchical Material Presets. They don't work on a G8 figure. You have to change G8F's Node Name to Genesis9 ( via Edit > Figure > Scene Identification... ) before applying H.Material Presets.
Then you can either select G8F or Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands hair node to apply H.Material Presets.
The DAZ Connect installer for Genesis 8 Starter Essentials hasn't been updated yet, as I haven't seen the product in the Smart Content > Updates tab yet.
The two Genesis 8 Starter Essentials installers in DIM (Genesis 8 Female Starter Essentials and Genesis 8 Male Starter Essentials with a installer date of 10/9/2024) does contain the Genesis 9 Auto-Fit support files. I installed both in a testing Content Library and can confirm at Genesis 9 autofit option displayed at near the top of the autofit clone list.
Thanks Crosswind. Now I can fit "Late Summer Bangs Style" to G8. Unfortunately I when I try to simulate, I get "Error preparing objects to simulate and collide."
My Bad ! I'm very sorry ! I took for granted that it would work so I didn't Simulate it ! Well, I don't know how the error comes for the time being. So I have to show you an alternative way as below:
1. Load a G9 Base into the scene. Show Hidden Properties... in Parameters pane. Load the summer hair on G9. Dial G8F clone on G9. Select Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands. Export it to OBJ file, as fixpos.obj ( screenshot 1 ~ 2 )
2. Clear the scene, load a G8F, then directly load the summer hair to G8F by auto-fitting with G9 clone... for 2 times ! once for the Hair, once for the Dummy Helper
3. Select Late Summer Bangs Style Hair Strands Go to: Edit > Figure > Morph Loader Pro. Choose fixpos.obj file you just saved... Accept with the Settings in (screenshot 3) . Pls be noted: this process will take 1 ~ 3 minutes depending on your PC's performance.
4. Dial the morph fixpos under Morphs > Morph Loader and Simulate. (screenshot 4 ~ 5). (Set it as Hidden in Parameter Settings if you want to... Not required.)
This method works all fine only it'll take more time and your scene file will get bigger (but you always can save the converted hair as Figure Asset by using your Vendor Name...). Pls give it a try and let me know if there's any issue ~~
Edit: I'll try to find out the cause of the above error, sorry again !
Solution: Have a G9 and G8 with the hair in the scene. Open the material tab for both hair sets. Copy the material from the G9 to the G8 tab. Save as material. Not sure if it works for strand hair, but it worked for a clothing product with hierarchical material settings
Yup, that way definitely works... but just cumbersome. I always change Node Name then change it back after thing's done.
The G9 to G8 autofit is not out yet, but should be soon :)
I'm sorry Mada, but I'm a bit confused... We got G9 clone from new G8 packages and they work well. So, you mean there'll be further more powerful tools, templates even enhanced Auto Fit plugin or something ?
If so, that'll be be great !
I'm a bit confused (not surprising): the subject is failure of DS 4.23 to autofit G9 clothing to G8. This actually worked when I tried it out prior to subscribing to Premier; it should work for the OP. G9 clones of G8 sounds like a different topic to me, and is something that hasn't worked for me.
When OP was posted, there was no updated G8 Starter Essentials pushed to DIM in which new G9 clone file is enclosed. So the so-called issue is just a "product dependent issue". It has nothing to do with either DS 4.23 or Premier tier...
Yes it will keep on getting better and better :) I didn't realise the clones were already out so that's a great step
