*.dsf are technical files which go in the "data" folder, like geometry and morphs.

What are you trying to install exactly, and where? They should be provided as a zip with the proper structure, or with a readme telling you exactly where to put them.

I'm trying to install this Green Lantern character. I try to put it in my data folder with my other 3rd party content and its not going threw. I got it from a guy who is selling his work on Patreon. His files didn't come with any instructions

Can you post a screensot or list of what's in the rar file?

Assuming it's a product created for Daz - which the product thumbnail indicates it is - then extracting it inside the data folder is probably not the correct proceedure.

When you extract the files from the rar archive there should be a series of folders, some of which should be named "data" and "runtime". If there is just a "Content" folder or one named after the product then just ignore those. Basically you need to merge "data" and "runtime" and all other folders that sit alongside them into your chosen library root path.

A rar file is just an archive file like zip. Your second screenshot says that is how the product you are trying to install is distributed. Unless you posted the wrong thing?

That's good then. However, do not put those three folders inside the data folder in your library. Instead you need to MERGE those folders and contents with those of the same name in your chosen Daz library - potentially the one named "3rd party content" although it wasn't too clear from your 1st screenshot.

I personally recommend using Content Wizard to install 3rd party content whenever possible as it does make it much easier (although not infallable). Might want to pop it in your wishlist as it's not currently on sale but who knows what tomorrow will bring.

    Carefully!

It looks like you are using Windows which is better in this instance since on OSX it's way to easy to splat the existing folders. Even so I am not going to guess at the best way to do it on Windows since I have never manually installed content that way myself.

Instead, I will direct you to the below guide made by someone much more clued up on the proceedure than me.

I would have thought that you'd install these into D:/3rdPartyContent - that folder should have data, Runtime and People folders if you have put stuff there before?

The instructions are a somewhat generic example - it's the part about finding those folders and extracting/merging them into the right place that is the important part.

The extract button would be in the unarchiving tool that you are using to open the rar file that the product says you would have downloaded. Again, I really suggest that you look into getting Content Wizard to install your 3rd party content as it does make things easier.

From your screenshot you have the following folders inside your D:/3rdPartyContent: "Content", "My Daz 3d Library" & "My Library". These are likely 3rd party products that have been installed incorrectly - the folders inside of those need to be merged with those found in D:/3rdPartyContent directly.

I still don't see it. I'm lost. I'll look into Content Wizard

If your content directory is D:/3rdPartyContent then that is where the /Data, /Runtime and other folders alongside them in the zip need to go - if the zip has a Content, My Library, or My Daz 3D Library (or any other folder) before you get to those then that is just unneeded, it's a placeholder for the real content directory on your system (the D:/3rdPartyContent folder) - since you do have those extra folder you now need to open them, select everything, cut, and paste into the D:/3rdPartyContent folder so that idetically named folders are merged together (on Windows - on a Mac it is trickier).

Ok i get what your saying. I did just that, I highlighted the Data, Runtime and People all together and draged it in my 3rdPartyContent and i get this error message. I even open the file and put the Data file with the Data file in my 3rdPartyContent, Runtime with the Runtime in my 3dPartyContent and People with People file in my 3rdPartyContent and still get the same error message.

The creator of the file is telling me to take all the folders and drag them to my Daz Install folder, and then open the file from my content library. Daz Install folder is my D:/3rdPartyContent or Daz install manager ?

I am not sure why it would obejct - the folder and file name both look reasonable, and the path isn't terribly long.

bewildering that you can have so much stuff in that 3rd party content folder and not know what a .rar is or how to drag/drop folders into there.

It doesnt really make sense that you could get such an error unless maybe the path to that file is very long-winded.  Navigate to that file in the folders and check if path is unreasonably long? Max path limit for windows is 256 characters apparently...

You could check to see if the is a space at the front of the filename

The files inside is causing the issue. A error message pop up for each one of them saying: The file name you specified is not valid or too long. Specify a different file name.

Im curious why there are suddenly new problems now?

In your previous posts you showed a screenshot of only "1 uninterrupted action" for a file in the /data subfolder

but now you claim there are issues with each file in the /people subfolders?

I downloaded the .rar for this freebie, unzipped to new folder, and copy/pasted the contents into a new content directory and everything worked fine.

There is no file in this product called Cap suit_219086

Perhaps search your directory to find out where that file is and temporarily remove it, or just ignore the error...

Since it won't install in my 3rdContentParty file, I added the file in My 3D library and it went threw. I try adding the outfit on my character and i get this huge block saying files are missing.

So ... did you install it properly by putting the /runtime folder into your directory?
In other words, do you actually have that directory and those texture files in your 'My 3D library' content library?
