Install Manager is Unusable

I'm trying to get back into some creating after a while away. I reinstalled Daz and the Install Manager, and it has been an absolutely horrendous experience. Occasionally when I open the application it just freezes my whole computer and I have to do a hard reset. Most of the time, I can start downloading some of the hundreds of products I've purchased over the years, and that lasts about 3 seconds before the download speed crashes to zero. What's going on here? My computer is plenty capable of running the software and has flawlessly in the past. Am I missing something? Have they given up on making their products usable? What can I do?

Download speeds depend on the remote server and on the intervening steps - I don't know if it is the recent sales, or the new DS version, or Filatoon, but speeds have been relatively poor for me too for a few weeks. Freezing the twhol system does sound odd, though - unless disc access is a system bottleneck, in which case getting the list of existing   zips and installed products may clog it up and block other things - and of course if your security software is slow on file access checks that might also have a severe impact.
