What is the difference between an 'object' and a 'figure'?

Yes, it probably is a dumb question, but I'm a dummy so I'm asking it. The DAZ Studio Edit menu makes it clear that there must be a difference. So . . .

    Figures are rigged, objects aren't.

    edit: let me walk that back. Figures are rigged, and an object may or may not be. There are options under Object that function exactly the same way as the Figure options.

    I think the concepts are easily confused in Daz Studio ~

    There are three names of attributes defined for a Node that has geometry (no matter polygon or polyline...) in Scene pane : Object, Shape and Geometry
    1) Object: Generally speaking we can call all of them as Objects, Daz define a Class for them, DzObject (Daz Object)
    2) Shape: Different DzObject has different Shape definition, for instance, a Genesis 9 which is a skeletal Figure, has a Class: DzGraftingFigureShape; a primitive Cube which is a non-skeletal Prop, has a Class: DzFacetShape. In DS we usually call them a Figure or a Prop from shape perspective, and they have different Node icons. Then Figure and Prop can be converted from/to one another.
    3) Geometry: has a generally-defined Class: DzFacetMesh

    Screenshot 1 : Node attributes of a Genesis 9 figure;
    Screenshot 2 : Node attributes of a primitive Cube

    Personally, I don't think that is 100% precise to name the menu items as Object and Figure from the perspective of the above terms and definitions ... though folks mostly understand what they mean ~~
