    Paradise by the Dashboard Light

"Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light"

    -- Meat Loaf

    DS 4.9, Iray.  No Postwork

    Lighting Setup:

HDRI for background lighting, intensity dropped way down.
Blue tinted mesh lights for overall ambience
High intensity white rim light to simulate moonlight (as other forum posts said, we've been conditioned to expect it by lots of night scenes on TV and movies)
Color Saturation dropped to .75 for night scene.
Emissive surface (2900K) on the radio panel
Point light (2900K) in front of radio for improved emissive lighting
Additional spot (2900K) to cheat for the light on the face

    Assets:

    HDRI from Openfootage
Car:  1953 Cadillac Eldorado by Curro Astorza
    Ysabeau 6
    Cat's Meow Hair
    Foxy Stripe Shirt
    Casual Jeans

    "Not For Long"

These bars may hold me now, but not for long...

DAZ 4.9 3Delight Render, no postwork

    Assets:

    • Prison Cell Block K
    • Tattoo Parlor Michael 5 Vol. 1
    • Blue Collar Basics Coveralls for Genesis 2 Males
    • Mullet Hair by Mech3D

Lighting: Only two spotlights were used in this scene. Additional lighting interfered with the mood of the piece, so I kept it simple.

  • Blimey, I Just Can't Find It In All This Fog!

From "When I Sailed With The Pirate King" a novel in progress by myself.  (c) 2016

But soon the misty white fog, steaming off the waves, was upon us now, rolling over us as thick as peas soup.   And I saw no lantern in the well.  Sometimes you are so cocksure of yourself, you are sure to cock yourself up all the more in the case of any error and that seemed to be the case here.  So I leaned over to the port side and up and down the misty waves seeing nothing, the zoom on my telescope only making the worse of it.

Beside me my companions eyed the breakers to the East and the area near the shoreline out past London port that we had not yet seen.  And then with a tinny rin, tin, tin in a flash all the way around on the other side of the scull I heard the bell ringing.  I looked up to see her, the “Castelle” one of the two ships I had bought!  And where was the other, the “Trident of Neptune”?  We had to slow down not to run into the Castelle, but had not seen the other ship yet.  And up on decks the engineers, and a skeleton crew, soon to have new heads... as my scull, and soon my skully wag crewmen ran forward to greet her in typical pirate fashion.

1 Daz3d 4.9 Main Render at high resolution, 22hour render combined with 2 main high resolution Terragen 3.0 Renders each 40 hours.  Combined Layers, added colour depth and lighting in Adobe Photoshop CC with Intuos Tablet.

The Jolly Boat (or scull or many other names) as itself, with Cartridge Box from Cannon Accessories
