HeadShop Questions

The line of HeadShop products has seemlingly exploded in the last few years. There are 2023, 2024, and 2025 versions. Some are titled "HeadShop" and others "HeadShop Pro" or "HeadShop LT".

Normally that would be great news! More things! And it probably is good news. The trouble for me is that even after reading the various product descriptions I can't tell one from the other. There seems to be a lot of overlap. But different products come witrh different prices and come on sale at different times, so I have no idea when to pull the trigger and what to buy.

I own Face Transfer and Face Transfer Shapes (I work mostly with Genesis 8), and I've been looking for a HeadShop product that is essentially the same as that, but I've become lost in the maze of options.

I think you're better off with Face Transfer.

  • I might give HeadShop 2024 a try as it's at about $30 right now with tokens and such. Stay tuned...

Brief update: So far, sadly, I'm not really impressed. But I've dedicated my spare time this week to playing with it and watching the tutorials.

Initial thoughts are that while I like some of the features- the 'autodots,' and an easy ability to mirror sides of the head without photoshop- the resulting mesh still relies too heavily on skin tone shadows substituting for real facial contours. It's something that the base Face Transfer also does. Swap the scanned UV maps out in favor of a vendor's maps and it can radically alter the appearance of the eyes, cheeks, and mouth, usually spoiling the model.

    Thank you for the tests.

I wonder, if one can use only morphs created there, but different maps, and still get some decent new characters.

  • I threw in the towel today and asked for a refund. While it might work for some folks, to me it was too slow to load, too hit-or-miss with the 'autodots,' and too dependent on using skin tone 'shadows' in lieu of actual morphs/facial contours. It also doesn't work with Beta versions of Daz which is where you'll often find me.

    It was a valiant effort.
