Textures appear black in build in Unreal 5.4, but fine in editor

Hello,

I am sorry to bother you with this, but I am making a game in Unreal 5.4 and I just moved a bunch of levels and characters
from Daz into my Unreal Project. I built them all into traversable levels, and working NPC's but I noticed a big problem in build.

In editor, the levels look fine, so do the characters, the textures are ok, no real problem.

But in build, when I make the game EXE, the daz characters and textures appear black. Just totally black,
They characters still work but the textures are all wrong, the levels work fine too, it's just a visual problem.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Hopefully something I can apply globally, rather than fixing each and every individual texture,
as there are hundreds. I did notice it's definately a problem with the textures, because one of the characters had a broken hair texture,
which i replaced with a different purple texture. When I open up the game exe in build, those particular characters are all black on their clothes
and skin, but the hair where i changed the texture comes up purple, so it's just a texture problem, the models are fine.

I don't want to post pics because it's closed development right now, so I'd rather not share pictures at this time,
but it's just like I said. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Hey, in case anyone else has the same problem,
This is how you fix it.
Go into the asset mesh, and choose from the dropdown menu

    ASSET ---> Bake Out Materials

And the textures will display properly in build.
I wonder if there's a quick way to bake all the textures but I can
do each mesh individually if I need to. Thanks, uh, me.

  • By the way, I think it's a bridge issue.

It seems to only be affecting my characters I imported with the bridge, and only some of them, and a few levels,
But most of the levels i added appear unaffected, and there are definitely some levels that were using bridge import and they're still fine
so honestly I don't know what's going on here.
