several times i have set a scene to render byl whatever settings Daz came with, i've looked at them and don't understand where renders "go" when finished, when the renders finished and i wasn't here, Daz went to bed: stopped and turned off the computer. when i returned and restarted the OS and Daz, it acted like, "who, me? what did I do? Render? I cannot see any render thing you talked about...}. I've looked and cannot find one. Is there something that happens to old renders, do they get saved somewhere? or do they just vanish? is there any way to bring up a recent but not viewed render?

If you haven't saved the render before turning off the computer, the render will be lost.

It might be in a temp area, but I haven't heard of such.

As far as I know, Daz doesn't keep in memory a render: once the render is finished, you need to save it as an image (or as a video, if you are making a video), because once the render page is closed, the render is lost. On the other hand, the render page is not supposed to close itself: if you are not here when the render is finished, the page should stay openned until you close it. If I understand correctly, it's your computer itself that turns off, is it that? When your computer turns off, it probably closes all application pages that was openned, including Daz Studio, and also the render page, that is why you don't find it.

So, I think that the true question is why your computer turns off? It is possible that the render requires too much power (I am not sure if "power" is the correct word here) to your computer. I mean that maybe the render is too cumbersome, and your computer turns off by security. I don't know what you have in your scene or what is the power of your computer, so I can't to be sure...

Another possibility if you you are absent for a while: did you check in your computer settings if it is setted to turn off after some time when you are not using it? I am not sure if it could happen here, but maybe it would be worth to check...

I recommend setting "Render Target" to "Direct To File" to output the rendering result directly to a file.

By the way, a temporary file of the rendering result actually exists.
Please check the log.
You can find where the rendering result is temporarily saved by looking for the information "[INFO] :: Saved image:".
It is, for example, "C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\render\r.png".
However, this file is deleted when you start the next rendering or exit Daz Studio, and it will not remain forever, so it is not very useful.

dondraw I have set my computer to a different power setting.

This is because, if Power Saving is activated to an interval of 10 - 15 minutes, the render will take so much time and as you experienced it it will not finish.

Look at the screenshots and try to adapt it to that way, the render may need at least two hours or more depending in the complexity of the render.

Also set a folder where you can save your work, after finish the render click browse beside the location in the dialog box, this way you can have the renders you need in one place.
