I want to perform a clean reinstallation DAZ because I messed up the filing system

Help!

I managed to mess up the file system in DAZ to the point where it ignores where DIM puts them. I've tried uninstalling all the DAZ files I can find, including the folders in appdata\roaming, but no joy.

A reset to Defaults button would be really useful here, given how easy it is to mess things up.

  • What do you mean, it ignores where DIM puts them? if you download and run (File>Open, or drag it into the Viewport) http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start it will make sure that DS is looking where DIM is currently placing files

  • Thanks for the reply. I didn't explain the problem properly. All the assets I have are listed under the available tab, but none are ready for use. To use an asset I have to right-click and install. Since we're talking about around 1600 assets, this could take some time When I first installed I had immediate access to them all once IM had done it's thing. That's no longer true since I tried to add another folder for recources and screwed it up. I've tried editing the content directories but cannot get things to work properly. By far the easiest solution should be a completely clean re-install. but no matter where I look, and what files I remove, there is something which is preserving the mistakes and loading them rightr back up again.

  • That means that Daz Studio is not aawre of the Install Manager files at all, but it has been allowed to go online and so knows you have the products and is offering to install them itself. Check to see if you can find the files in the Content Library pane under Daz Studio Formats, which doesn't depend on the database - if you can this is just a PostgreSQL issue, if not then you need to run the script from my previous post.

  • Ran the script Richard, it doesn't appear to have made any difference.

  • What foilders do you have in the Content Library under Daz Studio formats? Do any of them, other than Daz Connect, have contents?

  • This Is what it looks like (See attachment):

    CDM.png
    985 x 934 - 61K
  • OK, and where is DIM installing to (gear icon>Advanced Settings>Installation tab)?

  • Got this:

    IMAC.png
    1204 x 1227 - 55K
  • And in the Content Library pane, if you expand Daz Studio Formats, what is listed under it?

  • It all appears to be listed and in some cases even accessable, however anything for the Smart Content pane needs to be manually installed

In Content Directory Manager, why is Connect Data set to InstaLLManagerDownloads????

Your guess is as good as mine?

  • When you install throiugh DIM do you typically close Daz Studio and open DIM? That can lead to the database not running, which will prevent entries being made and so break the views that depend on the database. If the files are there you can open the Content Library option menu (the lined/hamburger button in the top corner), select Content DB Maintenance, and check the Reimport Metadata option; after clicking Accept you should get a new dialogue with all the content products DS can find, checking those (there is a master check box above the list) may fix the issue with Smart Content etc.

  • No joy. In fact, some of the items I manually installed "Can't Be Found" any more.

  • In the Content Library pane? We need to get that working before we worry about Smart Content or other database-driven views.

  • The Can't Be Found I was referring to are the items I did manually install which then appeared in Smart Content.

Are you sure it wouldn't be easier just to clean all references to DAZ and IM from the PC and begin again?

  • That is an option, albeit a rather drastic one. The first thing to try would be a right-click on the product icon for the afected products - if there is an uninstall option, select it - if DS has a Connect install listed it will try to load that, even if there are manual/DIM instalaltion files, and will complain if it can't fidn the connect files.

Uninstalled and re-installed and they work again. Four down, One thousand, six hundred and thirty-one to go.

It shouldn't be, but I wouldn't expect it to have dire consequences since the files written have nothing to do with Connect and it isn't a temp folder that gets cleared automatically.
