Help me configure render settings hardware

I was trying to figure out the best configuration on the hardware side for the fastest render possible, and I am getting inconsistent results.

I have a Asus laptop with 16gb RAM, Intel i7 12th gen CPU with integrated Intel Iris(R) Xe graphics, and Nvidia RTX 3060 6gb ram. See screenshot.

To test, editor panel defaults, in hardware panel I uncheck the integrated GPU and CPU fallback and scene renders in like 2 mins (1 min 50 something secs). The very same scene, I try with just the integrated GPU only and it's past 10 mins and it's not finishing. I have with both GPU checked and try rendering, it's the same as just the integrated GPU. So, I deduct, ah so I just uncheck integrated GPU! I daydream about all the stuff I am going to render. Time is a valuable resource, and 2 minutes is a good starting point. I snap out of it, and I do a test with just the Nvidia GPU again to make absolutely sure, but now the Nvidia GPU is behaving the same as the integrated GPU. Same scene, same lighting, no other objects except character on scene.  Exact scene. So that 2 minute render was a random fluke? Did I mess up somewhere?

I get consistent renders in Blender, what's up with Daz 3D?

Your integrated GPU is not supported for Iray rendering; only NVIDIA GPUs are supported, so uncheck the integrated GPU. 6GB of NVIDIA GPU RAM is very limiting. Large scenes will fall back to CPU rendering when they are too large for your 6GB GPU. CPU rendering will be slow. Once you fall back to CPU rendering, you often have to close and restart Daz Studio before it will render with the GPU again. So, try restarting DS before testing again.

  • Also, 16GB of main memory is tight - especially if, as is often the case i believe, it is shared with the GPU.
