Learning from the Pro's

When I first started out using Vue, one of the things that really helped me learn was following tutorials from magazines or from Cornucopia 3D. It helped me overcome many hurdles into learning a new piece of software (I'm still learning it but it encouraged me to be able to jump in and play)

I sort of feel that a really neat trick is being missed here by Daz where they could have a monthly spot light feature on a Promo Artist who talks about his/her technique, background, favourite images and even breakdown an image or two to help show us mortals how they go about creating some of the awesome promo work we see on the store.

Surely in the long run it would 'grease the wheels' for Daz surely as the more artists out there learning and churning out decent images  will translate to more content they can peddle!

Also it would help this ever expanding community. Anyone else agree?

I am always willing to learn from the pro's as well, it would be neat to see how a PA does their render for promo!!

Agree, it would be great- but writing up a tutorial that really isn't hard takes hours (ahem, I know, believe me) so doing the screenshots to show people all the details in the promo art would be so time consuming it wouldn't be funny. And time is money when you should be rendering instead of typing for hours on end. The good news is there are a lot of detailed explanations already scattered throughout the threads by people who are helping others, the Iray skin thread comes to mind. Quite a collection of workflows there. I don't know it there is a thread dedicated to special effects/postwork, but that would be interesting!

  • Thanks for your replies everyone. Definitely appreciate what your saying Novica, I write training how to guides for a living and yes I agree it does take a while. I agree postwork tutorials would be handy. I've seen one or two lurking here on the forums.

Again, thanks again everyone for your comments

  • If you have queries about specific amazing promos, you could probably ask in the Commons or in Art of the Promo. PA's do tend to lurk in the forums. Otherwise, you could shoot them a message. As for the Daz Original promo artists, http://joelegecko.deviantart.com/ might shed some light, no pun intended, if you asked them nicely! :)
