Valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established

I updated DAZ Studio when the new version came out just a little while ago.
I noticed that I was missing some content in the Smart Content pane so I followed these directions a few days ago (which took quite a long time!) and now I have much more of my content showing
Restoring Smart Content and Resetting the Content Database in Daz Studio – JAY VERSLUIS

Everything was fine yesterday when I used DAZ Studio.
Today when I opened DAZ Studio, it was taking a long time and I noticed it was updating my content again (counter running in the bottom left corner)
Ok, just be patient....

Then my power went out.

DAZ Studio will open now, but I get the error A Valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established
I came here to the forums and found that I should uninstall / install PostgreSQL through DIM.
Uninstall, Reboot, Install, Reboot.
I still received the error when I open DAZ Studio.
I also have a login button on my Smart Content pane, but I can't login because I need a Valid PostgreSQL CMS connection.
I have a Start CMS button on my Smart Content pane, but it doesn't do anything.

I looked at the DAZ article here
PostgreSQL CMS Connection and no Smart Content – Daz 3D Help Center
It says that I should select the port that DAZ Studio is assigned to.

How do I find out which port it is assigned to?
Also, I have 2 clusters to choose from - my C drive where the software is and my D drive where my content is - which do I choose?
What else do I need to do ?
Thanks!

  • The port used is listed in Edit>Preferences>CMS Settings. Sadlky it is quite possible that the abrupt shut-down while it was processing thedatabase may have corrupted the database and that is why the processes are not starting.

  • I agree that the power outage and shutdown is the source of my problem, but what should I do?
    I can't proceed with repeating Jay's tutorial because I can't log in.
I have rebooted several times and and reinstalled postgreSQL.
For CMS settings I have 2 choices - which one is correct?
DAZ was defaulting to the first one - where my content is stored, but I also have the second one which is where the program is, but this doesn't match what DAZ gives in their tutorial (below)

My port number matches what is in the DAZ tutorial, but the tutorial implies that the port number might be different?  I am able to change it.

I am lost here, and don't want to do anything wrong, because I really don't want to have to Format C to fix this.

The one you were using, if your database is recoverable.

It is just a number - the low values (e.g. 80 for Internet) are reserved but any large number, such as the default, should be safe. Sometimes changing it (it doesn't matter what to) may help with issues.

If this is a databse issue then reinstalling the engine won't help, and reformatting C: would be overkill. You can reset your database - by using a differenet content cluster location, ideally an empty folder that doesn't yet contain a ContentCluster folder (you are picking the aprent for the ContentCluster folder, on which PostgreSQL can be fussy about permissions) or by using the reset database command in the Content DB Maintenence  dialogue (from the Content Library option menu, the lined/Hamburger button in the top corner). Once cleared, see if the postgreSQL warning goes away - if it does open Content DB Maintenence (Content Library option menu again) and select Reimport Metadata, then select everything in the next dialogue.
